Snugglesafe/Snugglepuppy/Comfort Pal?
« on: January 15, 2007, 11:05:37 PM »
Just contemplating my money flying out the door as I start spending in anticipation of the new arrival. I would like her to have something to cuddle up with in her crate and I have found these products. I know some discussion about this has been held before but I'm still unclear as to what to do.

I like the idea of the Snugglesafe as the heat pad can go in the microwave night after night until she doesn't need it any more. However, it doesn't have a heart beat and I'm sure this helps.

The snugglepuppy has a heartbeat and a heatpad but it seems you activate the heatpad, you get 20 hours of heat and then that is it. You get 2 pads with it and although all the sites I have looked at say you can buy more, I can't find any. I wonder if you can put a snugglesafe pad in it?

Finally, the comfort pal has the heartbeat but no heat. Thsi looks really nice and snuggly though.

I'm confused. And that's not even thinking about the thingie you stick in the mains socket which gives out the smell of the mother's hormones!

I'm thinking of just curling up in the crate with her for a few nights.

Has anyone got any stromg feelings about any of these products please?

Not at all familiar with those products but you can accomplish the same thing much cheaper with a hot water bottle, a towel or sheepskin and a wind-up ticking clock.

You can also ask the breeder for a peice of blanket or a stuffed toy that has been in with the puppies.

Totally agree with spanielcrazy, save your money  :shades: You could always take some toys/bedding/towels with you and give them to puppy and any littermates to play with whilst your there. Also give Mum a good rub with a towel to get her scent on it too  ;)

When we got Millie we bought a little red puppy (from PAH) that had a removable wheatbag that you heat in the mircowave. (about 6.99 but cant remember excactly)  We only heated it for the first few weeks, but Millie still goes to bed with it now (shes 7 months old) but we take it away in the morning as she has started to chew it. (and I cant bear the thought of her destroying it and not having it to go to bed with) She's always pleased to see it at bedtime and trots into her crate and lays her chin on it.  :luv:

I think 'puppy' was worth every penny.

I bought a snugglepuppy  ph34r ph34r

I never used the heartbeat......as it is just the right size for puppies to chew; but I did use the heatpad when he was tiny :) The puppy itself became a much loved toy, but I agree that there are much cheaper ways of achieving the same result  ;)

I have a snugglesafe and a snugglepuppy and used one for the heartbeat and one for the heat - if theres money to be spent, you can guarantee I'lll be the one to do it  ::)

Coco just had a teddy that I bought from Oxfam for 75p!  I warmed it up at bedtime for her and she snuggled up to it.  She still does: she loves it and carries it around with her all the time.  :-*  I agree, save your money - there are so many things you can buy and most of them can be improvised for next to nothing  ;)

Ask the breeder to get an old towel and cuddly toy from a charity shop to give the pup in its last few days with mum and littermates, it will then be full of comforting smells for you to put in her new bed. Use an old wheatbag for a little warmth and ideally collect the pup early in the day so it can adjust to new surroundings and bed before bedtime. Many 'dog things' sold in PAH etc are made to appeal to the human whereas the dog only appreciates the basics, my pups favourite toy is an old plastic flowerpot she found herself in the garden and the expensive, brightly coloured, squeaking gizmos just get a passing interest.

Thanks for all your comments. The breeder has a toy for the pup which will come home with us smelling of mum. We have a large clock in the kitchen where she will be sleeping which is very soothing so I'll give the heartbeat toy a miss. Also, I have managed to find a heatpad toy which goes in the microwave for less than £5.00.  Lots of savings there then! Thanks

Good stuff!  I am sure you will find lots of other "essential puppy supplies" to spend some money on though!  ;)
