Billy often only had one walk a day, the rest was in the garden or in the tennis courts.

I've read back old posts and very few of them actually state three times a day so I reckon there may be a few people that have made the same mistake  :005:

I think whatever works for the individual pup is fine. I've always just read and gone by the three times a day thing and with Alfie any less than that he'd have been bouncing off the ceiling  :005:

I agree Jan - it is only fairly recently that the five minutes per day rule seems to have evolved into a five minutes per walk rule  ph34r

Like I said, probably it depends on the puppy. Alfie would have done himself more damage running riot in the house if he hadn't had a bit more exercise as a puppy than an extra 15 minute stroll on the lead could possibly do him. The KC recommends 5 minutes per month twice a day as far as I remember but I did three because I felt that that was right for my dog and I have read others recommend this also.

Apologies to the OP as this thread has gone waaaaaaay off topic!

Going to throw a spanner in the works here - but in one of my books is says you shouldn't walk a puppy at all until he/she is 6 months old, the garden is enough.

Misty is 4 months old and she gets walked once a day for about 30 mins - she is also in and out of the garden most of the day too  ;)

How on earth do they suggest socialising them --- can't imagine carrying a 6mo old round.

I live very near the park so I used to walk mine there then just let them play with other dogs, while we all had a gossip ::)

whenever Jess started pulling I turned around and walked in the opposite direction.  As she only pulled one wasy she soon got the hang of things that if she wanted to go in @her@ direction she had to walk nicely.
