I don't mind giving Buddy the occasional "rubbish" treat. So long as his diet is good in other ways I don't see that it will do any harm. He doesn't get hyper with them though. If he did then I probably wouldn't give them.

However every time he had dentastix or similar tooth cleaning stick he had the runs so we avoid those now.

I am sure that a raw bone every now and then would do the trick if you don't want to go down the BARF route. have to say Buddy's teeth are fantastic now. When he was on the good dried food he always had some staining. And like many others, we never managed to get him used to a toothbrush.

We did buy a pot of plaque-off just before we changed over to BARF. If anyone would like an almost full pot, let me know and I'll send it on.

Annette, I wouldn't mind the pot of plaque off... provided it is suitable for a vegan dog! I am thinking of trying it for Flash as he cannot have bones.

Before we found a reliable raw supplier, I used to get "recreational" bones to help clean Molo's teeth - these tended to be lamb or beef rib bones, or the occasional bigger bone - usually a lamb leg bone

I must admit I have given our dogs a dentastix occasionally with no ill effects - Spike has a cast-iron stomach anyway!! - but they usually have rawhide chewies,again with no ill effects.

Domino has got a little bit of tartar on his large canine teeth so he is having his teeth brushed every day to help him cultivate a Hollywood smile!!!

Dentastix are a big no no for sasha too, gets upset tum with anything like this. Been feeding barf for the past six months to both sasha and ellie they love it, and the bones do keep their smiles pearly white.
