« on: July 18, 2007, 05:05:14 PM »
Came home this afternoon to find that Ludo has yet again become the victim of the dreaded grass seed, this time in the other ear. Aaarggghhhhh We've only just received the payout from the insurance company for the last sedation and removal of 3 grass seeds which didn't come cheap!

I can't belieeeeeeeeeeve it! >:D

Oh well..better toddle off to the vets. Again.

I have never had this with any of my cockers but it sounds horrendous.  Good luck at the vets

Just came back and confirmed that it is indeed a grass seed. Hopefully the insurance company will pay out again..otherwise not sure if we can afford this.

The vet suggested clipping him all over  ph34r  I really don't want to have to resort to this, however.

Damn, I thought we'd been so careful. May have to look into those snoods after all. Recommendations, anyone?

Harmy had 2 grass seeds in ears last year, linus had 2 and George 1 >:(
I started off cutting up socks tp put round their ears, but Harmy was too active and they came off really easily so I got him a snood. He didn't like it :-\ but it became necessary. I cant remember where I got it from tho ph34r, but google dog snood ;)

Your insurance company should pay out - unless you have changed ?  :-\

Clipping may not be the best option, either - some people say that hair protects against the seeds entering the skin  :-\

I've been reading the threads on snoods and may order a couple from K9 centre. They seem to be everywhere this year, and of course the wind carries them everywhere as well. I just hope these snoods stay put.

I really hope that I don't tempt fate here - but Ben has never had a problem in his ears (he's only 2 though) but the paws have taken a battering this year!  I have taken him to the groomers and had all the fur clipped under the ears but they left his lovely long outside lugs alone  ;)  He also had his armpits and feet trimmed along with the 'fluffy trousers'.  I do find it easier to keep mats at bay and the sticky buds (sticky willies) are also easier to get out.  It's much easier to check his paws with less fluff so I'd go to the groomers or trim the problem bits yourself if you can.

I had problems when Ben was ungroomed (just coat kinged)  so I hope that the new (slightly clipped) Ben will prove easier  ;)

Poor Ludo!  ::)

Ruby had to have a grass seed removed from her ear last week. Not a nice experience for her.  :'(

I'm paranoid about taking her out in long grass now! Have seriously considered a snood but I'm not sure she'd keep it on.

Poor Ludo, I think we're all fed up with grass seeds this year  >:(

My 2 are cut short for the summer (as you saw on Sunday) and it does make it easier to spot the seeds and ticks.  I've also stopped taking my 2 to the fields near us and stick to mown areas.

Hope Ludo gets better and it's not too nasty for him.  Gentle pat from me xxx

I'm doing the same - the seeds are everywhere we usually walk  >:(  Coco also has a short summer haircut which I find sooo much easier to manage and more comfy for her.  :D  I have still found seeds between her toes and in her armpits though  >:D

Hope Ludo is OK and you manage to steer clear of those pesky seeds in future  ;)
