Hello

Not sure if this is in the right section or not soo Mods sorry if it is!

Well we are moving house on Thursday and today we have had the packers in and have packed most things and it is lying in boxes. Scoobie is fine but Mollie seems to be a bit destressed by the whole thing. She has taken her self up to my room as they are not packing that yet and will not come downstairs and will only let me touch her, anyone else she growls. This is SO unlike Mollie she has never done this before which is why i am worried. She has not been herself all day just sleeping so i took her out for a long walk were she perked up a bit but we came home and she went straight to my bedroom. Is there anything i can do to help her? And i am a bit worried of what she will think of her new house as it will all be new to her.

Help appreciated

Give her time an space and ensure you make a nice association with her new home.
I gave Bayley Hot roast chicken when he came to us as soon as he came through the door .
He seemed to settle in ok.
Best of luck with your move and try not to worry, your doggie will pick up on that too.

Poor Mollie :(

You could try some rescue remedy or emergency essence to help her settle a bit - and try to be as matter of fact as you can, so that you don't reinforce her feelings  :-\

Good luck with the move :)

I am moving this week too, on Friday.
My dog fonzy doesn't seem to be too put out by the packing and seems to be enjoying the hustle and bustle and getting his noses into boxes. My mother's springer on the otherhand absolutely hates change. My younger brother and sister go back to school next week and he will probably huff for a week.
But it will be interesting to see how Fonz adjusts to a new house. I will be watching with interest to see how your Mollie gets on. Best of luck for Thursday- hope it is as stress free as it can be for you and your dogs.

oh poor Mollie  :luv:   -  we moved last October from an apartment into a house on three levels - we were fortunate in being able to access the house on several occasions before the main 'move' which Saffy loved and it gave her an opportunity to explore, but still go back to her 'home'  ::)  so the final transition wasn't a big deal for her.  Possibly you don't have that option, and indeed it might just as easily had a different outcome for us, but she had no problems settling in whatsoever.  So, hope everything goes as well as it can on the day - good luck and hugs to Mollie from us. :-*

Thank you all for your kind words
But today things got even worse when she ran away :'( The packers came in at 8 so i was up watching Mollie and Scoobs as the front door is open most of the time. They were both on the sofa so i got up to make some tea and when i came back Mollie was gone. I thought she had just run up to my bedroom like she did yesterday but she wasn't there. Looked all around the house not there. So went outside looked up and down the road and the neighbours came out to look for her but she wasn't there :'(. we were looking in their backgardens as some of them don't have a side gate. An hour and 20mins later and i was getting really worried as the road at the end is a major road. So i started to walk up there to have a look when the fone rang at home to say that a man had seen Mollie sprinting across the main road and running infront of the cars so he had got out of his car and picked her up. I was so relieved so we went to get her and she was crying but so happy to see us. I have never been so scared in my life and the man told us she nearly got hit by a car. Mollie has NEVER done anything like that before and she has been out in the front before and she just comes back and barks at the door. I am really worried about the new house now and don't want her to escape. I love her so much and would never forgive myself if something happened to her. She was only missing for and hour and 20 mins but it seemed liked days.

Think i might try some rescue remedy on her like IWLass suggested as she is clearly upset.

I'm really upset now too and everyone in the house is now upset and stressed too :'(

Poor Mollie (and you) I'm terribly sorry to hear that. What an awful time on top of the stress of moving. I'm so thankful that someone stopped to help her.  :luv:

I hope things get better for you all. x

Has she been to see the new house at all? If she has, has it been positive?

It sounds as though she doesn't know what is going on and is unsettled, perhaps once she gets into the new house and it is settled again she will calm back down. Can she go to a good friend's that she knows and feels comfortable at for a few days untill the move is done? (although unless she does that regularly it may be more stressfull) Perhaps if you're stressed about the move she is feeling this too?

Sorry, lots of words, not much help  ::)

She can probably pick up on the fact that you are stressed and with all your belongings packed up in boxes she might be worried that you are going to leave her behind!  My Brother in laws labrador was like this when we helped them move house!  She was fine when they got to the new house and she realised she hadn't been left behind and everything was ok!

I'm sure she'll settle in fine to the new house!  But a nice roast chicken as a treat sounds like a good idea!

Hope the move goes smoothly!

Oh gosh, what a horrible time for you all. You must have been so scared this morning, I am glad you got Mollie back safe and sound. I can't offer anythng that hasn't been said. The stopping at a friends does sound a good option.

Thank you everyone for your kind words

Mollie seems to have calmed down a bit now and is fast asleep right next to me on the sofa :luv: (the only sofa left in the house!!)
I managed to take her over to the new house twice today. Took her in the new garden and she loved it! Also when she went inside the house i rewarded her with treats so hopefully she will have felt that it was a pleasant experience.
Took her down to the river tonight her fav place and she went for a swim with Scoobs and this seemed to have cheered her up.

Thank you again
