Ear length
« on: October 18, 2007, 10:07:34 AM »
Hello All,

Could someone please enlighten me as to why some cockers have really long ears and some shorter ones? Is this just down to how they have been bred?

I would say that the ears are all the same lenght (they should reach the nose), but the amount of fur and fur lenght can differ. And that is probably genetic.

There are two types of cocker spaniel, show types which are the ones most people tend to associate with when you think of a cocker spaniel, then there's the working type which look totally different as they are bred (or should be bred) mainly for work. Show types have long ears (when they haven't been clipped) that are set low on the head at eye level, working types have short ears that are set high on the head. If you have a look in the working type or particolour and solid show types gallery you'll see the difference .

One of my frinds children officially announced that Monty has 'three-second' ears...(apparently that's the time it takes to run your hands from the top of the ears to the bottom  :005: )  It naturally applies to all cockers!!!!

I LOVE three-second ears!!!!  :luv:  They are simply the best type of ears (IMO)!!!!
