we think OH is allergic to sam!!!
« on: October 21, 2007, 07:21:16 PM »
the last few months since we had sam my OH asthma has got worse :'(. we have been waiting and waitng to see if he'll improve as this happened with his last dog. he just seems to be getting worse!!

we are hoovering everyday and keeping sam in the kitchen when OH is home. he's taking piriton evry night before he gets home from work. we went out to pick up his son today which was an hours drive and we took sam with us. he took a piriton before we went but within half hour he was sneezing constantly and his eyes were streaming so bad i had to drive :'(.

sam seems to be shedding a lot lot more than normal the past week or so so we were wondering if this had made him so much worse today than he has ever been. do you think once the pouppy coat has come out things may settle down a little?

any tips on how to help with this will be greatly appreicated :D

Oh dear, what a bummer  >:(  I hope it is not down to Sam but has your OH tried Benadryl?  I have a couple of friends who are badly allergic to cats and it worked a treat for them.  You can get it over the counter in any chemist  ;)

How old is Sam now and have you had him groomed yet? You mention puppy fur, but I can't remember how old he is...

Try 'Petalcleanse' --- you use it on the dog's coat

Hi There is a product you can but which is supposed to help. it's the dander that causes the allergy. its caused petalclense and is about £11 a bottle, you spray it on a cloth and rub it over the dog, I think it can take up to 3 weeks for effects to show, but I know someone with a cat alergy and asthma they used it with good effect.
hope you find something that works,
Claire

I suffer with food allergies/intolerances and have to be "de-sensitised" from time to time.
There is a lady in Cardiff that I can recommend - who does a rather weird alternative therapy (the name escapes me!)
I was treated for hay fever last year because I was suffering with severe symptoms for about 2 months each summer and nothing worked. After the treatment I only had to take about 3 tablets all summer this year.
Let me know if OH would be interested and I'll try and dig out the details.

ETA - The therapy she uses is Kinesiology

I honestly think it depends as much on the house as the dog.

I had a real problem with Rusty, my parents' cocker, when they moved to a new built bungalow.  My eyes itched and swelled everytime I went there - I was a past suffererr of facial excema, but this was different.

When Rusty stayed for a week at my house, it was totally different with just a slight itch on the first day, despite him sleeping next to me in my bedroom.  I have a very draughty terraced house and I really belivee that plenty of air helps.

I am allergic to dogs, and I have allergy related astma. I take antihistamines (or do you call it hystamines in english?) every day, all year round, use my astma inhaler every night. Keep the house clean and groom the dog outside, every day. I just wanted you to know that I think it can be done, does not have to be impossible.

Of course there are different degrees of allergy, so I can't speak for yuor OH. I'm even more allergic to cats than to dogs, (my doctor said woooow omg! when she read the test result on cat allergy, to give you an idea) and every time I come home to my parents house for the summer, it takes me several weeks to get used to the cat. But it gets better at the end of the summer.

I've heard good things about petal cleanse. The one where you wash the dog/cat every week. It is supposed to remove the allergens from the fur. It will take at least two weeks before you see a result, because it takes time to get the allergens out of the house. (or so I've been told). I haven't tried it yet as I'm fine most days. But I'd love to hear if you think it works  ;) I hope it does! Must be frustrating at the moment with your OH getting worse. Hope you find a good solution!

Does your hoover have an allergen filter? If not you could be making things worse by spreading the very fine particles around in the air every time you hoover  :-\

Im allergic to my mother in laws cat and tried all the prescription only and over the counter remidies availlable in the chemist, but nothing seemed to work.  Luckilly my mother in law is a bit of a bargain hunter and goes around all the supermarkets at the weekend seeing who has what on offer and she came accross some cheapo allergy tablets in aldi.  They are one a day ones and i think they are only about 89p but they were brill.  Not sure if they will have them in in winter though.  Cant take them now due to the fact im pregnant and i really notice the difference.  Hope this helps!  :D

We have 2 dogs and a cat - a carpet in our living room (hoovered every day with a Dyson Animal) the rest of downstairs is ceramic tiles which are mopped almost daily!

I still suffer from a allergic reaction to something....docs tell me its the animals but there's no way they are going anywhere so I blame the dust, hayfever etc etc.

My eyes run, i can sneeze 50 times before I leave the house in a morning - I seem to clear up when Im at work tho  ph34r  , I take anti-histamines every day - all day and use becanase (sp?) nasal spray!

I cope with it because I love my dogs....its like I have a cold all the time, all year round  :005:
