Ben knows the words and phrases that I've deliberately taught him but he's cottoned on to a few more!

'I'm going to get changed' has him leaping off the sofa as it usually means me getting into muddy dog walking gear.

'Becky, hurry up or we'll be late' has him in his crate waiting for the calcium bone with a treat in!

'I'm just going to put the bins out' has him screaming the place down in excitement as he loves to help drag the bins into the alleyway (and have a quick hunt for cats in the alley).

'Do you want chicken for dinner?' (or any sentence that has the word chicken in) has him sat at the fridge with pleading eyes!

If I've lost something and say 'where is it', he goes very hunter like and searches for rabbits or mice .............. but on the sofa or behind the TV?  I do use this phrase when we're out though and he loves searching for small furries in the undergrowth.

They are so clever at picking up on things like the TV being switched off at bed time - or work clothes as opposed to day off clothes - knives and forks being put on the plate at the end of a meal (Ben is a star at that one)!

Trev was once in the boot of the car and I was just about to close it when I realised there was a box of 'stuff' in there too. So I was muttering away to myself 'oh blurry hell, what a pain so can't be bothered to go back and take that to the house, you're probably going to have to go on the front seat mate otherwise you'll get squashed when I go around a corner just don't get mud everywhere...' before I knew it, he cocked his head on one side, jumped out of the boot and trotted around to the passenger side and climbed in  :005: I just stood there with my jaw on the floor... probably a fluke, but you never know!  :005: :005:

Awwww!  :luv:

My (now long-departed) lovely Bess used to respond frantically to "squirrel" but the cutest was "bedtime". She'd search all over until she found her nylabone to take off to bed with her!

I really do think Ben is doubley doubley intelligent though Debbie - I always love hearing about him and his antics  :luv:

Hurley knows the phrase 'Are we going to go and see Kyrah, and CJ and Millie' (dogsitter and her dogs) he goes mental when I say that.  :luv:

He knows when Im getting food ready and will wait for me and then rush ahead when we take it in the lounge to eat. He's really good and never steals the food from our plate but loves to have a good sniff of what we're having  :luv:

His favourite phrases are 'Find your Ball' and 'Where's your lead' - both because they mean he's going to get his walk.

He also knows when I get changed into a particular pair of shoes and get my dogwalking bag, keys and lead he's off for a walk and then there is NO calming him down....

Trevor really sounds like Jarvis in some ways y'know, it's exactly the kind of thing my boy would do. I once mentioned the word ball in a sentence to someone.... Yep, you guessed it. ::)

I like this thread!  Lovely reading about all the phrases they've picked up on!

Wilson's favourite is "do you want"....Normally follwed by...."your din dins", or "to go for a walk", or "to go upstairs"(so he can have a bedtime cuddle!)

He also goes mad when I say "ooooh whats this" whilst looking into my hands secretly, he knows I must have something for him and comes running to find out what it is!  Another version of this is "what's daddy got" and he'll go running to find OH!

He also knows that when we mute the TV off and have stopped eating our dinner that it's time for his!  He'll be sleeping like a baby but as soon as the TV is muted his eyes open and he waits for the "do you want your din dins!!

They're so clever aren't they!

Oh and if I get my wellies out, he knows we must be going on a REALLY good walk and goes mad!  He loves running through wet grass, so if the wellies are out he knows it'll be a really great walk!

Nobody has mentioned 'heel' as being their Cocker's favourite word. Funny that.

Bella's faves (the ones which illicit excited woofs from her) are:

"Shall we go to the park?"
"El parco" (we can't really say this any more as she goes ballistic!)
"We're going to Agility"
"Squirrel" (that's the all time fave, guaranteed to stop her mid-tracks)
"Look" (not sure how she picked this up but if we ever say it just in conversation, eg "look at this picture in this magazine" she leaps up and is ready for action)
"Right then" (means something's gonna happen)
"Dindins"
"Karen/Simon/Erica/Anne's coming" (some of her fave people)
"Shall we go and get Ali/Claire?" (means they're coming with us to the station to pick the other one up)

Zorro's are:
"squirrel"
"El parco"
"find it"
"is baby?" (when he's in extra soppy mode and pretends he's too tiny to climb up onto the sofa so you have to hoik his bum up for him... :luv:)
"dindins"

Sam's favourties are:

Are we going for a walk?
Are you going to play with the doggies? (when he goes to day care)
Wassat?
Where's dad?  At this point he runs about frantically looking for him  :005:
Do you want a biscuit?
Din Dins
Bedtime

Love this thread, has made me chuckle!!  :005:

Let's see,

Murphy knows them all, Maddi is quickly learning  :005:: These are the favourites in our house,

Where's your dad. (cue two cocker nose marks on the door)
Puppies want a (insert anything here!!)
Biscuits
Walk

It is scary how often some of these words are recognised when I'm havng a conversation. my dad phoned me the other night very poud of himself cos he'd made a stir fry.  I said I didn't know you had a wok- well they were on my lap and round my neck before I knew what I'd said.

Don't ya just love them!!  :luv: :luv:

I don't think this was a fluke at all 'cos a similar thing happened to my Mums late Golden Retriever Ghillie!!  We were at Ikea having bought a chair and were trying to fit it on the back seat of the car.  There was a lot of shoving and pulling (like you often see at Ikea) while Ghillie sat patiently in the boot.  We eventually decided to put the chair in the boot and Ghillie on the seat, when Ghillie jumped straight out and climbed onto the back seat, it was as if she was muttering ' I knew that wouldn't fit...they are slow sometimes..'.  She was such a smashing dog!  :luv:

I have to admit to speaking to Wherry in a stupid voice and/or with stupid words  ph34r so her faves (ones she gets excited about) are -
Toy-toys
Boney-bone
Cheeewwwwwieeesss
What have I got for Wherry????
Cuddles Wherry
Where's your Tom/ Rick-Rick?
Birdies
Brushy-brush
Whatss-ssseeee?
Sockies
Wha/who dat?
Where's Bitsy/Queenie?

And the best ever is when she used to want to stay in bed with me in the morning after cuddles Tom would sing to her 'Let's go farming now, everyone's learning how...' to the beach boy's surf safari tune and she'd be at the door like a shot  :005:
