The dreaded B.A.T.H

Last night was bath night in our house; although, it could have easily have been "open heart surgery for dogs without anaesthetic" night, judging by the reaction of these 2.  :005:

I had been putting it off for a wee while now because: a) they both hate it so much  b) I hate the mess the bathroom's left in and c) I know that they will be as dirty as they were before within hours as we have a daily big walk in woods / mud!

Now, for 2 dogs who run at top speed EVERY day into the river, the reaction to a bit of warm water is ridiculous. Poppy spends the whole time trying to escape, while Bramble does that breathing down hard through her nose in disgust thing.

Anyway, by the end of their ordeal, Bramble was fine - running about like a a dafty but Poppy was obviously not talking to me. She gave a peed off growl every time I approached her.

All was forgiven by supper time, tho. I made her a boiled egg - her fav and fed it to her off a wee spoon - also her fav  ph34r ph34r

So, I went to bed with my entire house stinking of boiled egg.....but my wee orange and white fluff ball talking to me again.  :lol:

Biba does exactly the same will sulk for 3 hours and give you a "i cant believe you just did that to me " look and will back it up with a growl  ::)

i just leave the mardy mare to it  >:D

Oh dear, oh dear. What a pair. I'm glad they're none the worse now though. :005:  Any chance of some photos, please?  :luv:

Ozzy doesn't exactly seem to love the bath either but stands still and lets me get on with it, looking at me with the saddest eyes, but soon makes up for it by being dried and zooming around the place like a bull in a china shop.  ph34r

Bathtime used to be a nightmare for us, but I think I've won the fight now  :D I was so sick of the mess and the whining and the escaping from the bath, splashing water everywhere. And it was especially annoying that she loves water outside, but makes a big fuss in the bath  >:D So I started one of my many ridiculus doggie projects. I put her in the bath tub every single day (no water), gave her a treat and let her go. After a while I started to splash some water on her feet, give her a cuddle and a treat for reward. Weeks and weeks, no result  >:(  I sort of gave up, but I continued to do it, not every day, but from time to time. When she rolled in poo I brought plenty of treats to the bath, made sure she could not escape and hurriedly washed her. Rewarding her with playtime after the bath, before she could start sulking. It's been one whole year, but I can finally give her a normal bath  :lol: She will stand still and look miserable, but I've caught her enjoying it a few times too  ;) She would never admit it, but I think she is starting to like it.

Pringle is sooo good with having a bath.  She is a little angel  :angel:  It is one of the few things she doesn't have an issue with.  She goes in most days this time of the year as I always like to rinse her off in lovely warm water to get all her mud off.  However, the one problem we have is towel rage after she comes out the bath.  She goes berserk if you try to wrap the towel round her and dry her off.  So she now has to bribed with treats to sit still and be wrapped up. Cockers eh.  Nothing is ever simple.

Kali doesn't mind a bath but I have a friend who had a Staffy and whenever you said 'bath' to her, she would sit and quake in a corner!

Jake hasn't needed a bath since I got him, but he's starting to get a bit whiffy now so I think this weekend he's going to have to take the plunge.

I'm hopeful it won't be too much of a trial, as he tries to get into the shower with me every morning!

Heh heh that made me laugh  :lol: the aftermath is horrific isn't it?  ::) :D

Trev hated baths but loved the attention so was in total turmoil throughout the whole experience.. 'I don't want it... but she's stroking me and talking to me AND MY dOG THAT IS MY FAVOURITE THING EVER YEAH YEAH YEAH MORE... AHHH! I HATE THIS, NO I LOVE IT! NO IT DON'T AH!' etc etc...

Dave screamed at me the entire time for his first bath but couldn't be 'bovered' to do anything about it, the second time he clucked his way through the whole bath, but couldn't be 'bovered' to do anything else... the third, I'm fairly sure he was asleep for most of it ::)   :005:

Lucy does that undecided thing, but for her it's when i call her to the bathroom. She's so happy to be wanted, and really want's to please you, so she comes trotting in happily, then twigs as to whats going on and trots back out again, so she gets called again, trots in, then trots out. :005: I can amuse myself for ages playing that game. :lol:

How about outside with a hose, instead? Molo hates the "bath" (I think it is too confining and slippery), but will tolerate a hosing with no problems  ::)

I pop my two on an old plastic patio table and use the hose-attachment designed for spraying the garden to wet them down, then I shampoo and rinse them off - I have even blow-dried them out there, too  :005:
