Roan Question
« on: November 03, 2007, 08:25:53 PM »
Hi All,

I've heard people talk about "Black Roans", I wondered what they were exactly? I've nenver seen a photo. Does the colour even exist?

I emailed a breeder (who didn't have pups but put me on to another breeder), he sent me a photo of one of his dogs he got from him a few years ago. Could she be a Black Roan?

That picture is of a Blue Roan dog.  I'm sure there isn't such a thing as Black Roan  :-\ (not in the UK anyway).

Do they mean a dark roan as apposed to a light roan?

Haha, yeah I said to him I love your Blue Roan. He replied "my little bitch is a black & white - the blue roans are a little bit grayer & a bit less white in them". So that's why I asked, lol.

I wondered if she was black and white ticked. I saw a young pup this evening and he looks like B&W ticked. But I can't always tell the difference between them and blue roans tbh.

I have a blue roan pup... with hardly any white so he's probably the closest you'd get to it  :005:

Never heard of a black roan though have to say!

I think people tend to make things up like lemons become apricot etc. or peple get not in the know don't understand why it's 'blue' when it's actually black  ;)

I would agree that a black roan would probably be a dark blue roan. Whistler has a white tip to his tail and a grey muzzle and some white on his hindqauters but apart from that he is almost all black, but he is a dark blue roan.

That's a light blue roan working cocker in the photo, pretty much exactly the same as my Alfie...
