Hi does anyone know !!!
« on: January 15, 2008, 10:52:37 AM »
:D Hi I am learning as i go as Kasper is my first dog (now 8 months),

I am currently feeding him James wellbeloved which he has been on since bringing him home, he does eat it eventually but never seem enthusiastic about his meals, i tend to leave food down till its gone and then top up his bowel (never more than 3 times in a day). Would i be better reducing him down to two meals and lifting his bowel if he doesn't eat rather than letting him pick.
I am however reluctant to change his food because i like him to be on a good quality dry kibble and don't want to cater to his fussy nature (in other words i have chosen the brand that i want him to eat), am i doing the right thing?
Also I was wondering is it OK to give him a fish oil supplement? can i use human ones or is there specific doggy ones that i would need to buy

Any advise will be greatly appreciated xx

MY Hamish is on JWB and is 6 months.

He is on two meals a day and what food does not get eaten after 15 minutes gets lifted. He always makes sure he fully eats his next meal.

Im not quite sure if this is what your meaning so correct me if ive miss understood  ::) :005:

If you leave food out at all times then your dog will know he doesnt have to eat it all at once as it is readyily available. I would just put food down at feeding times and if its not all eaten after 15 mins or so then bin it  ;) Repeat this and he will soon finish whats in his bowl  :D

:D
i would just do set meal times and not leave food down all the time...if we picked all day we would eat our meals either  :005:
just do the 15 min rule then remove the food until the next meal time....i prefer to mix wet food with kibble..personal preference ..and there are good quality wet food available..naturediet..natures best and burns have just brought a wet food out...cut the quantities of both accordingly if mixing wet and dry  ;)
i do use human 3,6 and 9 oils just split the capsule and mix with food but thats only for 1 of mine as she is on BARF...i think its OK to give to dogs on kibble..someone else will probably know  :D

I can't remember when we reduced from 3 to 2 meals per day, but like the others, I don't like leaving the food down all day (wouldn't get the chance with greedy Buddy anyway, so it's all theory really), and like the others if I had a fussy dog I would leave the food down for 15 minutes then lift it. No more food til next mealtime.

Tough mummy!

I have tried a few different foods for Bruno as unfortunately he has a very sensitive stomach. I did try JWB for a while and although he was able to tolerate it, he's nearly 8 months old. Unfortunately he did stop eating it, we had the rule if he didn't eat it within a set time we took it up. Also Bruno did get very hyper after eating it. There are other good quality dry aqnd wet foods on the market. We now use Arden Grange in the morning which he doesn't always eat and NatureDiet in the evening which disappears in seconds  :005:
Whatever you decide good luck
