Egg Shells?!

I hope this is the correct place?

I've been looking up on how to make Liver Treats, as Marlee's Puppy Class Trainer said it would be a good idea for us all to bring some treats (which I had done anyway), and she suggested homemade liver with garlic cut up for tiny treats, so I've been lookg up what to do.

Once recipe I came across (for making liver cake) said that the dogs are safe to eat egg shells? Is that true? I didn't think they where safe for dogs at all.... any ideas?

While I'm here, does anyone on COL make Liver training treats? If so... uhm... what do you do? lol.    A list of the method and the ingredents to put with it would be awesome! Thanks in advance.

My two eat raw eggs, including shells, once or twice a week, and when I make liver cake, I chuck the whole eggs in the food processor and whizz them up 

My one attempt at making liver treats was a disaster, so I don't bother now - I use livercake, tuna bread and pieces of hotdog sausage and cheese

Yes egg shells are fine, they're full of calcium. I often give mine a whole egg to play with and then eat, although only in the summer as it more of an outdoors treat! If I give them an egg with their dinner they get the shell as well, I crush it up a bit and mix it through.

I used to make liver treats and liver bread but the smell  . Now i make tuna bread - a few minutes in the microwave - thats what i like. This is the link I use (got it off here initially)

Thanks guys! Wow, I didn't know that! Hehe, I'll try my boys with the whole egg in the summer. They're not having it in the house, I can imagine the mess! Eerk! lol!

Yeah, I've read that it stinks! Hmm, do you know of any liver and garlic treats you can buy which don't have all the added crap in them? The only ones I've seen are these:

Same here, except I use the little liver treats after getting a free sample from my breeder - good value for money as they last ages

I make the tuna bread too, it's so simple and quick, all the dogs I've known have gone mad for it!well worth a try !

Just to confirm - are the whole eggs raw or cooked?

Always looking for fun things to feed Honey - haven't got the freezer space or organisational skills for BARF, so she is on dry kibble, but we do give her occassional chicken wings, bones etc....

I try and give both my two raw egg mixed in with their dinner sometimes...Glen its eat no bother, Sally hoaever usually ends up with a pile of neatly licked bits of shell at the side of her bowl and gives me that look that says

'mum....you got shell in my dinner again'

Bailey loves raw egg.  Never given him the shells though.  Howe often is it ok to give it?  I usually just crack one into his dinner

What age is it OK to start giving them raw eggs? Poppy is seven months and on a good dry kibble (bit of yog, or chicken & Rice occasionally).

I made some liverbread for Roxy this weekend, but tuna bread is good too. I make them both quite regularly now as i don't like the sound of a lot of the of the things that are put into commercial dog treats. Also it's pretty healthy and they like it. As for egg shell if i have an egg I save the shell and crumble it in to her dinner.....

Murphy loves an egg. I let him have it on the kitchen floor but have to shut him in or he'd take it to his bed! He was so excited the first one he had when he cracked it and out came the egg inside! I love watching him eat it cos he licks so gently when everthing else he eats is practically inhaled!
