Sweating
« on: March 21, 2008, 02:19:47 PM »
I don't know if this is anything to do with Mally's skin condition, that i have discussed in another thread, so i have started a new topic.
Mally sweats an awful lot, We are constantly drying his bedding, now i'm not talking slightly damp but wet all the way through, he has a plastic dog bed and when you lift his blanket out, you can see that it is wet underneath. we have made bigger holes in the bottom of his bed but it makes no difference.  The dog parlour that i took him to the other day also commented on the fact that he sweats alot. Very strange :-\

Are you sure it's sweat ? I thought dogs only had sweat glands in their paws - which wouldn't be enough to leave a wet blanket, I don't think.

You are right, Colin..

See number 4.

Have you tried smelling this moisture? Could it be urine?

Or, if the room where the bed is situated gets cold at night, could it be condensation?

Try him without the plastic dog bed, just cushion or blanket, for a night or two and see if it still happens.

I used a plastic dog bed with my springer and noticed that the bottom of it could be quite damp and wet round the edges. Personally I would use a fabric bed and throw the plastic one away.

As already said, dogs (and cats) don't sweat, they pant to regulate their temperature. I'd think it's probably most likely to be condensation as well.
