Visiting Agility Shows with NFC Dogs?
« on: May 05, 2008, 08:55:32 PM »
Hiya,

I have done agility for about ten years, however h've not competed in agility for a couple of years as I took up Flyball with the Border Collie and my Cross Breed is getting to old for Agility). I'm just starting the basics with the cockers, but would like to take them to some local agility shows so they get the experience of the atmosphere (lots of people 'n' dogs, trade stands etc). Do I have to enter them NFC or can I just turn up? I wouldn't be entering any other dogs in the show.

Many thanks in advance!!  :D

Holly

Hi Holly,
If it's a KC show you are supposed to enter them NFC, but if it's independent you usually should be ok, providing it's open to the public. To be on the safe side, check with the show secretary   :D

Thanks for that!  :D The shows I was looking at visiting are KC, so I'll print out and send off an entry form with the two dogs names and KC numbers. I might enter Penny (nearly 12yr old Lab Cross) in the oldies class for a bit of fun!

depends on the location, if its a outdoor public area like a sports field or country park then you can walk about, its only if its privately hired land that it would be an issue

Freya and Cockers Bilbo and Dobbie, not forgetting the Springers Willow and Paddy

Again with my hsubands show secretary hat on!!

You can arrive and report as a visitor to the secretary's tent and then sign in and sign an indemnity to say your dog will be under control etc at all times (you may have to wear a badge though!!  This can be done and all KC shows must have facility for this (remembered last minute last year so hastily printing of little badges and forms).

But probably easier is just to submit an NFC entry!

Rosie & 4 naughty cockers plus one!

V.Helpful thank you! I've missed the entry form times for most of the local shows so I may do this  :D I'm hopefully going to Rugby show in July and will enter my girls NFC.

I am fairly sure, having been to Rugby the last three years, that it is open to the public and therefore you should not be required to report in or anything   We're not going this year though.  We normally go for the YKC Crufts Qualifiers but decided in January we were just going to keep our fingers crossed that Dan qualifies at one of the ones closer to home.  Then in March he only went and won YKC Agility Dog of the Year didn't her so now he wants to go even more as defending champion!  ::)

- I don't blame him! He did really well!  :D :D :D

My Penny (Mini Lab X) got runner up YKC dog of the year a few years ago, she a tenth of a second behind the collie winner! It was such a great feeling! We qualified a few times after that, but never quite fast enough. I'm out of YKC now and am really hoping Roxy stays small so she can try out for Crufts in the Eukanubas! She's eight months and the measure is right on at the minute - if she gets any bigger she'll be medium. Rio is a hard one to call as she goes down at the shoulders, but I think she'll almost definately be a medium.

Is Penny black?  I think I saw her at Crufts  :shades:

Tiggy was eight months when I got her and I was worried that she would measure out of medium but she didn't grow any more after I got her so hopefully you should be OK with Roxy.  I have also heard that as cockers mature and fill out their shoulders drop so quite often change height (going down a category) from their first measure to their second if they are close.  Tiggy is 42cm though so she is a definite medium

I have my fingers tightly crossed that she will stay small. I don't know how they're going to measure her though, she'll lick them to death!!!  :005:
