Dog run question...
« on: May 06, 2008, 07:33:17 PM »
Hello!

I had built an enclosed area for my previous dog so that she could go potty in it, which in turn was sparing the grass from harsh (female) urine! :005: I had put gravel in it, but can't remember the required dept for proper drainage/sanitation aspect. I remember my mom pouring some bleach on the gravel from time to time to kill bacteria.

Was that the correct way to go at it? Any other suggestions? I'm thinking of building a similar set-up for my next dog.

Thanks!

Sorry Lili but I would guess that most Cocker owners in the UK don't have a separate run for their dogs to toilet in and so wouldn't be able to answer your question about the depth of gravel required. If you're going to use a gravel run (I'd go for paving slabs myself as they're easier to keep clean), I'd avoid putting bleach on it - there are specific animal disinfectants available which would be better and safer for your dog.

Paving Slabs would be better and a drain is best to put in as well thus allowing easy cleaning. There are a number of disinfectants and odour killers out there, the one I use Safe 4 http://www.safe4disinfectant.com/odourkiller.html its recommended by the Dog Warderns here  :D
