Blood in puppy's poo
« on: May 09, 2008, 10:35:57 PM »
Satchel started to get diarrhoea yesterday which we put down to him eating something from the garden (he's 4 months old and laying his teeth on everything!!) Today I've noticed blood in his faeces and am now really worried.  He's very active, eating well and has been fully vaccinated.

I've taken a sample to take to the vets tomorrow, but would really like some advice on this.

Thanks, Lizzie

Its very common for blood to appear after diawotsits, (its caused by irritation of the bowl)  youve done the best thing in contacting the vets to rule out any underlying bug.

My puppy had this at about the same age.  She had to have some antibiotics and probiotic paste.  They also advised chicken and rice for a few days.  It cleared up pretty quickly.  Like you, I was really worried...the sight of blood was very scarey for me.  I called the vet as it was a Sunday, but was quickly re-assured that it is quite common and she advised that I give her some scrambled egg that evening and take her into the vet first thing Monday morning.

Try not to worry too much tonight, if you can.

Thank you both - I was just about to give our long suffering vet a call!!!

I'll see how he does this evening and speak to the vet tomorrow, if necessary.
