Oh dear I want cocker number 2
« on: June 03, 2008, 09:36:34 AM »
Last night down our local field bumped into another family with the most stunning cocker girl, and found out that the cockers parents are pregnant again.  It is a friend of her family that has the mum and dad (family pets) and mum is pregnant again (this is her seond and last litter to be) I fell in love instantly

Why is it one cocker is never enough?

She is going to find out more details for us, oh help, can we really have another cocker?  our boy is 9 months and very laid back, will this be a big mistake? we would like another boy, is that a good idea?

There is something about cockers isn't there?  We are counting the days until we get our second cocker - but that gives us 5 dogs in total!

Only you can make the decision, but whatever you decide best of luck.

a friend of mine is having a litter out of her golden show type later in the year, im really umming an ahing about having one though, but dont know if i want a show type or another worker IM CONFUSED x  Im worried that after having Quincy who is pretty much perfect and has been excellently behaved throughout the 12 months of having him with me i might get one that chews everything and causes mahem!!  its a more difficult choice than getting Quincy who is my first ever dog tbh.
My little angel, sent to me in my time of need, i love you with every piece of my broken heart xx
My beautiful boy xx

I'd wait until your puppy is older personally, specially if you intend getting another boy. There can be problems if you have two boys relatively close in age (same for two girls) so it's best to have a really good age gap between first and second dog. Also, getting a pup from someone who is just breeding from their two family pets is probably not the best way to find a knowledgably-bred, fully health tested litter :-\

I'm waiting for cocker number 2.  "Madam" is 4 on 15th June, and her breeder should have another one for us soon.  One litter was due on 31st May and the other is due on 10th June.  Hopefully there will be another little blue girl in there for us!!

We're getting excited (well, I am! Teal, couldn't care less!)  :lol2:

I am thinking about having a second cocker myself & have nearly convinced my wife...

I just like the idea of Ellie having a play chum & she always plays with more bounce with another cocker.
When we go out walking I am always on the look out for someone else's cocker as I know she just loves having a play with one of her own so to speak.

What was interesting was the breeder who we got Ellie from said to not have 2 from the same litter and even though I asked for 2 she refused to sell me 2..

I look forward to hearing what everyone else thinks about having 2 cockers.

A good doggie friend did say she finds it is ok to go to someones house with 1 dog but if they dont have dogs it is more difficult with 2.
She also says that when 1 of her 2 dogs past away she didn't lose just the 1 dog but 1 1/2 as her remaining dog was never the same.

I intend to wait until next year so Ellie will be 1 1/2. Should I have another girl or a boy ?

Any advice would be great.

I agree as well about waiting till the first one's a little bit older. Bella was nearly 2 when we got Zorro and even so she's still reverted to being like a puppy herself (now aged three and a half).

I LOVE having two though, they make us laugh so much... :lol2: :luv: :luv: :luv:

I really, really, really want another cocker!  :005: Chloe will be two in August and with her eye problems it's made me want one even more in the hope that she'll stick with the other one whilst out walking instead of chasing after scents and then getting lost as she can't see me!  :-\ The reasons that concern me are that they wouldn't get on! I do also worry about having two dogs when we go visiting as Supa Cocker Doppers mentions, we often visit relatives and of course when I stay at Clive's Chloe comes with me  :-\

I really want another but not sure I could go with the whole puppy thing so would look at getting an older puppy/young dog again. Ho-hum, if I win the lottery then there is definitely no stopping me!  :005:

I would love another puppy but with Elmo being only 14 months i think its unfair to introduce another boy (and it would be a boy as OH doesn like the thought of seasons ::)) at the age Elmo is at. Im going to wait til hes around 2 1/2 or 3. Also there is still a bit of training to be done with Elmo and i wouldnt have time to dedicate to 2 at the same time.

Me too  :005:  I really don't think it'll happen because OH isn't keen  :'(  It would be so good for Melody, we don't see many dogs when we're out on our walks and she thinks she's exclusive to the species.  We had my sister's daschie over on Saturday for a few hours and they played together brilliantly.

OH is a cat person first and foremost, he always says no when I say Melly could do with a doggy sibiling  :-\

 :lol2:

I have 5 of the little darlings and dont regret any of them, even when the kitchen is swimming in pee!!!

My last 3 have arrived very closely together and its really great to watch them playing as my oldest didnt have a play mate for 5 years and the secont is 4 now and he is loving having the babies to play with.

Mine are all workers but still live in the house and fight us for the sofa!!!

Go for it  :D
