A Good Weight
« on: July 22, 2008, 01:37:01 PM »
Hi All,

Merli had a litter of pups just over 3 months ago her Tummy is VERY baggy due to continues Breeding and she is 13.55KG which I feel is to heavy for her.

She is about 4 years old it is thought so what would you say a good healthy weight is for her I need an idea of what to aim for.

Thank you

Lee

Can't help with baggy tummy other than mine took a year when I had my children  :005:  I'm sure someone will be along with advice for you.
My cocker is 16kg and is fine, but I do like them not to be skinny  It will also depend on how tall she is  My Bailey is 15.5cm. Not long ago there was a thread about height  v  weight. My other cocker is only tiny and weighs just 8 kg

Was she a puppy farmed bitch? There are some other ex-puppy farm bitch owners and they might know how long it'll take for her to loose the saggy tum. :luv:

Cocker weight and size varies alot so it's best to go for the look and feel rather than aiming for an average weight. They should have a nice little waist and you should be able to feel the ribs fairly easily (if you're having to prod for them then she's too fat!  ;) :lol2:).

OK she is a Puppy Farm Bitch as was my Westie my Westie's tum went back to shape totally but Merli's is awful I will get a pic to show you. She is long legged and 16 inches tall. I guess when I think how diffrent my Samoyeds have been in weight and size it's the same for most breeds. Bracken would you happen to know where that thead is?

As best I can see from the pic, that's not fat, it's saggy teats. She should tighten up some,. but some bitches don't get back their girlish figures  :005: after multiple litters.  :-\

A good weight is when you can see a defined waistline when looking down at the dogs back, and you can feel ribs just below the skin without pressing in too much. The numbers on the scale don't matter
