Oster Golden A5 clippers - I can't change the blades
« on: August 23, 2008, 06:27:44 PM »
Help please!
I bought the above a while ago, plus 3 blades (I do a mix of handstripping, some thinning scissoring and a bit of clipping on William). They're an upgrade on my old clippers but I can't change the blades and it's driving me mad.
I've removed the blades as per the instructions, which are to stop the motor, lift the blade away from the clipper and slide it off the tongue.
But I can't replace them. The instructions say "Turn motor on, insert blade on tongue fully, then snap blade into place". Can't do it at all.
Does anyone have the same clippers and can give me an idiot guide on how to, please?

I slip the blade over the tongue, snap it down and then turn the clippers on, it sort of jolts them into position.  ;)

I had a problem with my Oster A5 clippers the other week when clipping Moo-Moo.

Managed to get the blades off ok but when I replaced it with another blade, it wouldn't sit right.
Took it off again and the two screws that hold the 'tongue' on the clipper had become loose.
Tightened them and the blade sat nicely back in position.

Trouble is though, it's happening all the time now, so have replaced them with some Andis ones, but have not used them yet as haven't got a coat to clip!!!  :005:

This is pretty much it but you should really turn them on as you snap it down ;)

The tongue is still sitting up away from the head right?  Only that as they wear down its not unheard of this to snap down as you take the blade off and you need to prise it back up.

Thanks for the advice but I still can't get the blade on! It was making me so frustrated last weekend that I decided to leave it for a few days before trying again. OH (who's a lot stronger than me) has also tried and failed, which makes me think we're not doing it right.

Is the tongue the brown coloured hard plastic bit, or the small black metal bit below it that moves up and down if you push the other black bit lower down, or is it the rectangular silver coloured bit with 2 vertical ridges on it, or all of those together?

Should the brown bit and the small black bit be joined together? They're not and they don't quite line up.

Help pleeeeeeeeease!

Hi

The tongue is the rectangular bit with the ridges which slides down the back of the blade and pushes forward and the small black and brown bits on mine aren't joined together but are in line, the black bit being smaller (it looks like a spring) ...........that might be the problem perhaps?

Hope you get it sorted !
