Smelly girl

We have had several breeds of dogs but our cocker girl is the smelliest of all!  I bathe her regularly with a gentle shampoo but within a couple of hours she smells again.  Can anyone tell me if this normal, and what I can do to make her smell nice.

Also when I bathe her or she gets wet after walks her ears take hours to dry - any tips for drying these as she is terrified of the air dryer.

i usually get a hot water bottle and wrap it in a tumbledried towel so that its really warm, he usually curls up on it and falls asleep, i dont know a lot on the subject but have heard you have to keep them warm when they are wet and that you shouldnt bath them too often as it gets rid of the natural oils in their coat ( same for humans hair i guess) other than that not a lot else to suggest apart from coat deodorizer... i know PAH do a nice coconut one that my friend has, and there are quite a few other ones out their, or you could try addidng a few drops of aromatic oil in with the shampoo so it is a stronger scent.

My old cocker used to be the smelliest dog ever! Just a general pongy odour, even an hour after a good bath! The smell of the kitchen when i came down in a morning was quite strong! Knowing what i know now about diet, im wondering if that had anything to do with it?

..........have you checked the lip folds for 'cocker mouth' as that can sometimes be the smelly bit. Try sniffing all over  to find where smelliest?? Could be anal glands as well? I keep my two out of trouble with pongy anal glands by adding some all bran to their dinner in the evenings.

Been sniffing as suggested  (she thought that was good fun )and it seems to be coming from her ears.  They look clean and healthy though

Did wonder about food - she's on nutro - so I wouldn't have thought that would be the cause as its supposed to be good

.....Nutro is good stuff so its unlikely to be that. Ears shouldnt smell that bad that you can smell them when you are standing away from the dog  . I wouldnt recommend putting anything in the ear without consulting the vet first - I know alot of people use Thornit, I have done in the past, but as my vet says putting a powder in the ear only tends to clog it up - bit like talc in our ears I s'pose.

If the ears are really pongy then perhaps a quick trip to the vet to check theres no infection further down the ear lug! This will also give you peace of mind that all OK with your girly.

i use clean aural which is what my breeder reccomended, its just a few drops in the ear then massaging it in and then cleaning out the wax etc that builds up, its usually a dark brown kind of colour, but he only gets this done once a week. but then i wash his ears every fortnight ( dunk them in a jug of water making sur ei dont get any in his actual ear) I'm tempted to try the deodorizer, although hes not too smelly at the moment.

i use cotton wool balls, (the kind you cleanse with) with quite a bit of baby oil on, then use a fresh one to make sure it's all clean and dry i do this once at week after his shower i use p@h own brand alo vera shampoo it smells lovely and its really thick and creamy. its lasts a long time too.

aww glad to hear shes smelling lovely.

Martys puppy freshner spray smells gorgeous, coconut and vanilla ( or is it honey) from PAH. ohh groomers will deffo be trying that one out!

Was the smell actually coming from inside the ear?

The reason I ask is that cocker's often get food stuck in their ear fur and then obviously after a few days it starts to smell! 

Do you use a spaniel bowl for her food/water?

I use groomers puppy fresh on Huggy and it smells lovley! Does the trick anywhoos!!

Whenever I put any puppy sprays on Misha, she runs around the house trying to rub it off on the carpets, furniture etc.  She really hates it - her preferred odour is "eau de cowpat", which she regularly smothers herself in.

lol, bless her, he doesnt seem to mind his, we usually do it before we head to puppy class so he stands there whilst we put his lead on and give him a spritz.
