De matting comb

Eric has a couple of mats on his furry tum. What have you all found to be the best dematting comb/rake?

I have a rotating teeth comb, which cost about £4 or so at Crufts a couple of years ago. I think all the big grooming companies like Allbrooks sell them.

It helps to gently ease out tangles and matts and if you accidentally comb a knot that you haven't spotted it doesn't hurt your dog as much as any other comb or brush that I've tried.

I've got a rotating comb aswell but when Indie had a matts around her nether region from being in season, I did buy the Super detatter after seeing it here on a thread which cuts through the matts if they are especially difficult to get out with a comb.

I got a matt breaker from P@H. It is made by Mikki and is very good.  Also have a super detatter which is the same sort of thing but the Mikki one is a bit smaller and comes with replacement blade.

A good grooming spray will also help to tease the matts out.

Smells really nice if you are prone to a smelly dog 

Have used the more expensive one from Plush Puppy but tend to stick to the cheaper ones now as I go through quite a lot of it and it ends up costing a fortune.   http://www.plushpuppy.com.au/

Have also used the groomers detangle spray from PAH if you don't want to order online and it was good for the price, was about £3.00 but my favourite and best value is the Amazing Trix.

I use a dematt spray - when necessary.  In the main I comb to the matt and then tease it out.  You have to give it time.  Last resort I lift it and cut out with thinning scissors, but I do not like to cut unless it is really thick.  The more I brush and comb the fewer real problems I get.  Leave them for a week or so and it becomes hard work.

I do the same. 

Katie has thick hair, so tends to get matts in the armpits and the back of her back legs.  She gets brushed and combed every day (she lays on her back for me and falls asleep ), and I use a comb with an elastic band wrapped through the teeth every few days when she starts to look fluffy as it takes the dead hair away.
