Strange day u/d
« on: December 12, 2008, 10:00:36 PM »
Chloe has behaved quite strangely today...well, not exactly strange, sort of all the norty side of her behaviour exagerated! She's not responded to commands she was previously ok at; she's hasn't slept a wink (occasionally lay down, but still obviously alert). She's followed me about the house constantly; she's barked at absolutely nothing for ages; she turned her nose up at her tea (although finally ate it). She just seems to have been generally agitated. I wondered if she just is starting to need more in the way of stimulus. Today she had 35 minutes off lead, constantly retrieving ball and also working on recall and sit and stay. Since then, we've had about 10 minute interactive play and I attempted a clicker session with her this afternoon, usually she loves it, but she got fed up after 2 sits, 2 downs and 2 leaves  :005: I'm not worried, she's wagging her tail almost constantly, but I wish I understood doggy behaviour a bit better! She's presently lying down on the floor (really odd...usually its the sofa!) but at least she's settled. I usually take her out for a walk between 9 and 10, now Im not sure whether to let sleepingish dogs lie  ;)
Could it be a sign of her coming into season? Or the start of the dreaded teens? Or am I just being paranoid?

How old is she now Sue?  The way she's behaving sounds very similar to how Mindy would be just before her seasons.  Suppose it was a bit like a doogy equivalent of PMS  :005:

Defininately sounds like she's coming into season.  Probably can't decide what to do with herself.

I agree. Fern was just like this with her first season too. It's as if her brain had turned to cotton wool. She got clingy and a bit whingy too. I am soooooo  glad I had her spayed afterwards.

 Have fun!  ph34r

I'd second that!  Mindy was spayed early Nov & I can't say we'll miss anything about those 3 weeks of having a confused, hormonal dog.  It must be quite bewildering for them not knowing why they feel the way they do.

And it is not like you can explain it to them either like you could a human teenager having her first period..or just about to is it :-\

There is a very distinct smell about Chloe today...I can only describe it as errr..a period smell iyswim  :embarassed:

Is this another sign that she may be coming into heat? There's no sign of any teet swelling, but she is licking herself rather a lot!

Just what I was thinking, poor Chloe  :luv:

I keep waiting to see signs of Murron's first season, she will be 8 months on Wednesday.

Extra cuddles for Chloe  :luv:

sorry to bring this up again, but Chloe's strange behaviour continues...I don't particularly have a problem with it but she's licking her lady bits such a lot; if she's in season but is being so ultra clean that I don't see any blood, how will I know for sure? Any help much appreciated as always  ;) Lady bits aren't exactly swollen but more definied, iyswim  ph34r

Does sound like it could be the start of a season  ;)....Lola is just coming out of hers  ::) woo hoo  :005: and getting back to her old self...she really wasn't herself for the first 2 weeks and was very very restless...think she had belly ache  ::) but also slept alot more than she normally would if that makes sense  and like Chloe wouldn't lay on the sofa but stayed on the floor ..her lady bits weren't swollen at all but she did smell and not in a pleasent way  ph34r and she didn't pee anymore than normal ...you will probably see some blood eventually somewhere in the house but you could try wiping her rear end with white tissue to see if there is anything on it  ;)
