HELP!!
« on: December 21, 2008, 05:30:04 PM »
Ollie is now 1 and we can confidently say he is housetrained with the very odd accident if we don't listen to him but not when we leave him. He is still weeing in the house if we leave him. It doesn't matter how long he is left most times we come back to a wee.

Yesterday we went out for the most 2 hours in the afternoon and came home to a dry house, today we went out for an hour and came back to a wee. Once he was left for 1/2 hr and he wee'd. I work part time so during the week he is left for longer but the length of time does not seem the issue, he sleeps all night with not a problem. We have got a mail box on the outside of the house and today there was  christmas card in there, could it be that he could be frightened of things going on outside. He isn't a nervous dog but he still seems a baby.

I leave the puupy pads down but it is hit and miss if he uses them. After cleaning up I spray the area with Simple solution from PAH.

Has anyone got any ideas on how we can help him to stop weeing when we are out.

I would get rid of the puppy pads, I would think its confusing that its ok to go in certain areas of the house at certain times (when there down).
Before you go out I would take him outside or for a walk and not go back into the house until hes empty.
Prise highly anything done on walks or in the garden and ignore anything else. If he has had an accident while your out just quietly put him in another room while you clean it up.
Where does he sleep at night? is it the same place hes left in during the day?
If its not that hes confused and he is feeling stressed about something when your out a crate introduced properly could be useful. I would think if he was stressed he would be making noise or doing some damage (not an expert though)
What do you do when you  come home and hes weed?

Thanks for reply. As soon as I come in they always go mad as cockers do so ignore wee, give fuss then put outside and clean up wee.I always put them outside before I go out. One time Ollie wee'd outside, i then took son to school but realised I had forgot something and I really had to go back and get it. I don't like doing this as I don't like to disturb the dogs. When I went in Ollie had already wee'd, I must have been out 10 minutes, 15 at the most. That is an exception though, he is usually dry if we are out a couple of hours. We don't crate him any more as we have another dog and this seemed to distress him as he wanted to be close to Buster. He always wee'd in his cage anyway right from bringing him home. I never get cross with him for weeing as he is an angel in every other way and is actually quite obedient, I know its not his fault. I just want to help him and to stop the house smelling of wee. It doesn't really but you do get paranoid. I will think about stopping using the puppy pads as I have thought these might not be helping.
