Gari's not "right", but I'm not sure what's wrong.UPDATED.
« on: June 08, 2009, 08:35:51 PM »
For the last couple of days Gari has been a bit strange, I can't exactly put my finger on it. He has been coughing a fair bit on and off over the last few weeks, and now he doesn't want to eat his breakfast and is very whiney. I think he wants to eat other food rather than his renal diet, but I can't give him anything else. He is eating in the evening, but is constantly hanging around me asking for something, but what, I don't know. :-\

I'm going to take him along to the vet tomorrow to have his heart and lungs checked because of the cough, and he's also due a blood test to check how his kidneys are doing. At the moment he is pacing up and down and whining, then he'll lie down for a little while, then do it again. He still wants to go out and spends a lot of time barking at the workmen and wagging his tail, plus I'm still getting lots of cuddles and kisses from him, but something is niggling me.

He has been out of his routine the last couple of months with me being in and out of hospital and off work, so maybe that's what's upsetting him. I was really quite unwell yesterday and he spent the day in bed with me, so maybe he's woried that I'm going to go away again. But, I'm more concerned that it's him who is ill. :'(

Does it sound like anything or am I just being over-protective?

Go with your instincts - there might be nothing wrong with him but better safe than sorry.  I do know that Brodie can be a little 'off' on the days that I have bad flare-ups so hopefully it's nothing more than that. I am incredibly paranoid when it comes to Brodie so I know how you're feeling :-*.  I love Gari to bits and love looking at his funny photos so I hope he's back to normal soon :luv: :luv:

No advice, just hugs to both of you. You're having such a tough time. I hope Gari's ok at the vet tomorrow (and that your appointment comes through but maybe that's just hoping for too much....)

You have to go on your gut instinct sometimes, and you are doing the right thing by taking Gari to the vets.

I would say though animals are so receptive to us,and maybe as you said he is out of sorts because you are and seeing as you had a bad day yesterday maybe he is unsettled.

I wish you both well  :-*

I always think that if your instinct is telling you that something is wrong, then it usually is.  I used to do this with Chloe.  You get so attuned to your baby that all it takes is a few deviations from their usual routine or behaviour and you know something is not right.  I hope whatever it is that the vet can sort it out lickety split :luv:

As others have said.....go with your instincts....you know your baby the best.
'Coughing' is a real tender point for us at the mo. (Purdeys Problem!) and is best to get it checked out (the vet won't say your wasting his time.......they get paid whatever  ;) ) Maybe he's unsettled because you've been unwell but at least you'll know for sure! {{hugs}} to you & Gari.....hope you get it sorted  :luv:

Gut instincts are what I always go with.  Better to get Gari checked out and be given the all clear IMO.
Let us know how he gets on at the vets  ;)

It's partly after reading your post and the one about Jewel that made me decide to take him. I work at the vets, but am off ill just now. When I phoned them today they told me to stop worrying, but best to bring him in for a check up anyway. He lost his voice when I was in hospital, and I thought it was because he's been howling, but obviously it could be to do with whatever is causing the cough.

I'll find out tomorrow anyway, and hopefully can get rid of that horrible knot of fear that's in my stomach just now. :-\

I hope it turns out to be something very simple, and that he is soon back to normal.

Sorry to hear you had a rough day yesterday too, hope you are soon much better.
