I have been reading all these lovely words from your friends. I hope that they will bring some comfort.


I just watched the video of him barking at the workmen again, I can't believe that so much could have happened in just a week. I am so very sad for you.

Fiona, I'm so very sorry, we all know how much Gari meant to you and your OH.
Sweetheart many of us have been where you are now and it's the worst pain  :'( big hugs to you both.
I think for you to adopt another cocker who needs your special love and care would be a wonderful thing to do.
You'll know when the time is right and it will be in honour of Gari.
Take care and be there for each other
I hope you can take comfort in the posts on this thread.

I know it is so heart wrenching and painful for you at the moment.  I remember the day we lost Sammy, even though it is 6+ years ago now and after the shock of his sudden death there was this most awful ache to cuddle him with all my strength but of course he wasn't there with us.  My OH sorted a wonderful photo & frame very shortly afterwards and this seemed to help a little with this urge that just wouldn't go away.  :'( 

Fiona, i hope that as time goes by, your pain starts to ease.  :luv:  Try to remember all the wonderful times with Gari.  :luv:

Its so difficult to know when the right time for another cocker is.  When I lost Indie I waited because I thought I would be betraying her memory, but in the end I wish that I hadn't, because Misha really helped me through what was an awful and lonely time (the house was so empty), and I know that Indie would have loved her as she was intended to be a playmate for her.  When I first joined COL I mentioned that I had lost a dog recently and someone had replied that they were glad that I had Misha to help mend my broken heart, and thats exactly what she did.

I know that you have some wonderful memories of Gari and I feel very privileged to have been able to read about this cheeky chap. Only you will be able to decide when the time is right, but I hope you won't wait too long.

I think you are very brave Fiona to think about giving a new home to a needy dog. What a kind person you are..I think the dog you get will be vey lucky and it is the best honour you could give Gari in his memory. :luv:

Fiona the part you said about aching to hug Gari I so understand as thats what I want to do to my Benji and I so desperately miss that.
Its early days yet but I said in one of my posts a few weeks back when I lost my Benji that wanting to have another cocker is a testimony to what went before and if you and your oh are thinking of giving another cocker a loving home thats down to Gari who showed you what a wonderful thing it is to have such a dog in your lives.A huge compliment to Gari.Its understandable to think having another dog would be betraying the memory of Gari as I thought that too.But its rather been taken out of my hands as my oh has said no for now.But you can tell Gari when you next talk to him that he was such a lovely soul that you wanted to repay his memory by doing it all over again.He wont mind. ;)Take care :luv:

When I lost my old boy Merlin. I was devastated and even though we had other dogs in our house he left a huge gapping hole in my life.  :'( I to thought of filling it, but didn't want to betray his memory, so decided to wait. Then a little while later Harvey came into the Rescue centre and I loved him straight away. It was totally meant and I know my Merlin would be happy as long as I am happy as I know Gari would be with you. I am a strong believer in fate and when it is the right time everything will come together and it will just feel right. Like others have said any dog would be lucky to come and live with you and your other half. Take care of yourself and try to remember all the good times and all the joy Gari brought to your life.  :-*  :-*

So true! When the time is right the right cocker will find you  :luv: We thought we would never get over Breagha or love a dog as much as we loved her, but then Molly came along and we love her just for being her  :luv: :luv:

Oh Fiona, I can't believe I'm reading this. I've not been around much recently and missed your original post, I'm sorry. My heart is breaking for you, Gari has always been one of my favourite cockers because the love you have for him always shone through in your posts. I can't imagine the pain you are feeling but I'm sure there must be some comfort in knowing that so many of us have shed tears for your lovely lad, he was such a darling boy and will be missed by all of us who loved reading about him and his antics.

Sleep tight darling Gari, you have given so many people so much fun and laughter in their lives.
