For Anyone Thinking of Rehoming a Rescue Dog
« on: June 28, 2009, 06:07:38 PM »
I just want to say that Violet is the easiest, calmest cocker I've had in my entire life  :luv:

I've had cockers that were bought from breeders as baby puppies, another one that I bought at 6 months of age and 2 previous rescue dogs. They all had their own little quirks, and I loved all of them.

But Violet is just so calm and quiet, it's unbelievable.

We've been out today to a "Pop in the Park" event in a local country park. It was very hot and there were thousands of people and lots of dogs. Violet just took it all in her stride, she met an English Bull Terrier and a 1 year old loopy Springer, as well as various other random dogs, and she behaved impeccably  :luv:.

So, anyone thinking of getting a rescue cocker but feeling a bit put off by the baggage that some of them come with, don't worry, they are not all fruit loops, sometimes, a calm one does come along  :005:

Edited to add, in view of the thread below about solid cockers, Violet is solid black  :lol2:

That is a lovely post to read. :luv: You are so lucky to have Violet, and for her to have ended up with you. A lot of people do think a rescue dog can't be a good dog, but Violet is proving that rescues can come without baggage, or the baggage can be overcome, and can be lovely dogs.

Gari was a rescue too, and a wonderful boy, but not without minor problems. We will definitely be going down that route again as soon as little "Duggie" puppy grows up a bit. :luv:

Oh, and where are the pics of the lovely girl?

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh. Thats a really lovely post.  :luv: Rescue dogs do indeed make lovely pets. I have had both ones with issues and ones without, but wouldn't have been without any of them.  :luv: I to think we need some piccies though.  ;)

Sorry, I forgot my camera today. My son's fiancee had her camera but the batteries in it died whilst we were out.

I will take some photos this week, I promise  ;)

What a lovely post  :luv:  and definitely true, Tilly is about the most well behaved dog you could wish for, she has no issues whatsoever and hasn't given me so much as a minute's bother since I brought her home :luv:

This is a lovely post, but I just want to add a note of caution. Some people are not straight about the background of dogs they put into rescue. For me, I'd want to make sure that the rescue dog I was taking on had come from a reputable rescue and that he / she had been properly assessed.

As someone who said I would never have another solid cocker after my horrible experience of having to have my first cocker, Millie PTS....and also someone who could be suspicious about dogs who found theselves into rescues, here I am with a solid rescue cocker who is an absolute dream. Never again will I be as naive about solid / rescue cockers - so I've learned a lot from Coco.

I'm looking forward to hearing and seeing much more of Violet. I am so glad you found each other. x
