This is a lovely post, but I just want to add a note of caution. Some people are not straight about the background of dogs they put into rescue. For me, I'd want to make sure that the rescue dog I was taking on had come from a reputable rescue and that he / she had been properly assessed.
Oh, I agree wholeheartedly. I would only take a rescue dog from a reputable rescue, you can take a tremendous risk if you adopt one from an unknown rescue. A reputable rescue, such as Many Tears, where Violet came from, will provide back up and advice for any behavioural problems that may develop and will always take the dog back if there are problems in the future (not that I'm expecting problems, but no-one knows what's round the corner)

Loving the name...Violet .My Benji was a rescue and absolutely fine too.As was his predessesor Rosie and she came from the sort of rescue you just had to rescue her from the rescue if you see what I mean. But I was lucky those times as I also had a few dogs from rescue and the internet who I had to either return or take to a rescue as the owner didnt want it back and it was a maniac and I didnt have the expertise.I would always go down the route of rescue rather than breeder though but thats just me.           sounds like you and Violet are a lovely match

I think it also helps if the rescue match up the right dog with the right people as well and that those who apply for a rescue not to get disheartened if turned down as the rescue may feel that dog isn't the right one for them.

Violet has really got a lovely home now with you Viv

I've been turned down for dogs and haven't been offended in the slightest, as I know they have to find the right homes for the dogs. We may be a good home for a lot of dogs, but not the home they would benefit from best, and I understand that. But, one day the right dog will come along. :D

Thats really nice to hear,  I have seen some very positive experiences on this forum and I agree that it must be down to the rescue and them matching the correct dog to the correct people. I hope in the next few years to rescue one too, I just need my youngest to calm down a bit!!!
Looking forward to the photos

I haven't been around much so hadn't realized you had found another rescue girlie to share your life.  Congratulations to both you and Violet - she's a lucky lass.  She couldn't have found a better, more caring home.  :luv: :luv:

Violet is lovely, and so lucky you've taken her into your life.

Sorry -deleted my post as although Tiffany is 'second hand' she's not from a rescue centre and I therefore didn't think it fair to rave on about what a wonderful dog she is  :luv:

My Molly came to me when she was nearly 3yrs old through NESSR she was not a Rescue more a rehoming but the chances of problems are still high, she is an absolute treasure she was obviously well looked after and well trained.
I have no idea why she was handed over for rehoming and sometimes wonder why as she really is perfect in every way.
