Changing food flavour not brand!!
« on: June 29, 2009, 09:26:53 PM »
Hi
Is it okay to change the flavour of dry food but using the same make (JWB) without having to do it gradually?  Ozzy has been on JWB fish and rice for a while now but we thought we'd give him a change of flavour.  When we changed from IAMs to JWB we did it gradually (as suggested here), but if you want to stay on the same brand, can you interchange flavours?

I think I also made a classic mistake with giving him a raw chicken wing the other day.  He loved it, and it took him a while to eat it (he usually hoovers his kibble), but then he got the runs in the middle of the night!   :embarassed:   He's still not right but we're sticking to dry food until his tummy sorts itself out........

Anyway, just wondered about the flavour thing really......any advice gratefully received (as always)...

Sue

We change the flavour as soon as they old bag runs out and have no problems, we just give them the same brand but a new flavour to keep them interested. Duck seems to be a favourite here!

I would have thought you would be fine, although one of ours did have a fish flavoured one for a while as he was a bit sensitive when he was younger, maybe just try chicken first as lamb would be the stronger flavour.

Hope that makes sense

Both mine are on JWB and i change flavours every time i buy a new bag, i have had no problems.  For my older dog who has a sensitive tummy i usually do the same flavour for a couple of weeks. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice.  I'm just hoping that his tummy settles down again.  He had a problem with a virus a few weeks back and I'm hoping that this isn't back!!
