I think I found a tumour!
« on: July 02, 2009, 12:39:13 PM »
On the floor! :o :o
Came home and saw something on the floor about 1cm in diameter. Thought it was a pinkish stone and picked it up. Then discovered it was very hard but the outside felt slightly soft-almost rubbery. Also it had some bluish lines in it and was oozing blood from one end  :o
All the animals seem ok (although Ali has mast cell tumours butthe seem intact).
Has anyone come across anything like this before?

I was thinking the same thing.... it really is hard to see the head parts on a fully engorged tick...  ;)

Sounds like a tick to me too... they usually fall off the dog when they get that big ...

What did you do with it? If you still have it, why don't you pop along to your vets and ask them what it is.

Looks similar to this

Nope -not at all. We examined it very carefully-definitely no legs smooth all round except for one end that had a tiny hole where blod was oozing out-thick, blood. Also definitely had vein-like lines in it.
After examining it we binned it-daughter just finished 3rd year medicine and she reckons definitely a tumour but who from?

you don't have cat's do you?  Could it be an 'offering' (heart/spleen etc) from a killed mouse?

Cat next door leaves the spleen for her owner every time  ph34r

We do and I thought of that but it was too big and too hard- we couldn't get a knife into it except for just into the surface of the "skin"

(as I said -my daughter is a medical student and was keen to dissect it  ph34r)
