High pitched yelping.....Ooh!!

Please can someone help.  I don't know whether this is just one pup telling another off.....or it is outright aggression.

Luis and Ollie each had a treat this morning, but Luis left his to one side and wandered off.  When he came back Ollie had taken it.
What happened then was a real all out wrestling match...and we had to intervene because Ollie was making the most awful high pitched yelping sound.  He even continued to do it, when we held him after the incident, for a few moments.  I have looked all over his body and there is no sign whatsoever of a bite or injury.

Is this normal?  Is it what they do?  I have never experienced this before.  I have had dogs tell each other off.....but this seemed really aggressive.  Luis is normally a quiet and quite passive little soul.  I have to say that when we put Ollie down later, Luis came to him and licked him.  They seem fine now, too.

Is Ollie a pup  as pups do make an awful sound when being told off...like they are being murdered  if there were no marks on him then i wouldnt worry too much just supervise when they are around stuff that might cause conflict and doesnt matter how passive the dog is if it thinks something of his which he values is being taken away he will defend it

Ollie is just 5 months, and Luis 8 months.

They usually do everything together, and despite the worry we had about having two puppies together......all has been great.  They sleep together, play together....normally it is harmonious.

But this morning it sounded like murder was being commited, it was so upsetting to hear the sounds..... I honestly was expecting to find some injury.

They are quite close in age then so could be a bit of order sorting coming out  i would just watch them around stuff that is high value to them ....better to avoid any conflict than sort it out after 
my 2 have the occasional spate normally over something silly and it sounds really nasty but its normally just a bit of teeth bashing and lame punches  ...i think if you have more than 1 dog in the house its to be expected occasionally even if they are quite close normally

With them being both boys and so close in age I would watch this too and try to avoid conflict flashpoints with them. Things are usually pretty hunky dory while one or both is still a puppy but as they get older and move out of the puppy stage the likelihood of handbag moments and scuffles does increase.

We are having this with Alfie 18 months and Lenny nearly 6 months.  We have stopped giving chews sticks and treats as these are the flsh points for Alfie. Like you say Lenny sounds like he is being murdered, but in all honesty I would be afraid too the way Alfie goes at him 

We were having the sames issues with toys, until I discovered Lenny likes noisy things, like the turkey dressed as Elvis that screams  which Alfie isnt keen on. That seemed to diffuse anything, as Alfie was curious and it resulted more like team work to murder the turkey  I defo think Lenny is losing his puppy license now, but in saying that there is an element of bullying going on that I can see. Its difficult isnt it

Are they any better if they are neutered?  I haven't really thought about it.  But, if they get worse as they get older, is this the better option?  It is all new ground.  Had girlies before.

I don't know if this helps, but we have two puppies who are now 10 months old.  When they were younger, one of them socialised well, but the other used to yelp at the sight of another dog, a person, a car, anything - as though it was going to be murdered where it stood!  And if the two pups were playing, the same one would yelp as though the other had bit its' leg off or something.  Now though, a few months down the line, there is no problem.  Our little yelper has got her confidence and is fine in most situations - she certainly doesn't yelp any more. 

So, maybe it's a little to do with a confidence problem, on top of the fact that your two are probably trying to sort out their own pecking order!

Don't worry, I'm sure as time goes on this will resolve itself, especially if you have them neutered.

Thanks so much for that.  It is reassuring to know that it is not something awful going on. 

I guess it will just be a matter of time, and letting them sort of few things out for themselves.  Naturally, I will try to minimise the areas that could cause conflict.............my goodness, it is just like having children again.

Hi, like you I was very concerned when I first heard it, mine both do it out of excitement but only when they see our cats in the garden as they want to go out to them. I came running inside when they first did it I was mortified at what could possibly have gone wrong and OH said they had seen the cat on the window ledge!!! Its like a squeeling yelping sound, I am surpised we have not had the RSPCA around as someone thinks we are killing them.

I have honestly never heard anything like it.................it really does sound as though Ollie is being savagely attacked.....but, there is nothing at all.  Then, they get all friendly and puppy-like again, chasing and playing.
