Puppies and vaccinated dogs

I have a question hopefully someone can answer. I always thought that puppies were fine around vaccinated dogs. My neighbour has just got a pup and has been told she can't go near Molly (I had offered for socialisation) until 2 weeks after her second jag but I had always thought it didn't matter if the older dog was vaccinated. I couldn't work out how it could be right, what if they already had a dog of their own, surely they couldn't keep them apart for a few weeks Worried I have something wrong and would like to know for the future.

I'd always thought the same - When my two were puppies the vet said not to take them out, but they would be ok to go to other peoples homes as longs as dogs were vaccinated.

My vet said it would be fine for Misty to visit other dogs in their homes as long as they were vaccinated.  I obviously already had Poppy so she would be round another dog anyway!

Maybe she is confused by what the Vet had actually said. Or maybe she is being a bit over cautious to protect her new pup??

Yes i always thought that pups were ok around vaccinated dogs in the home enviroment

I did wonder  tho she seemed really keen before they got the pup to let her around Molly as she is such a sap. I think she has misunderstood the vet too, I imagine he said not to take the chance of unvacs dogs and she has thought that means even dogs she knows. Thanks for clearing it up for me, I would hate to be saying the wrong thing to people with pups.

My Willow had her second vaccination last Friday, she's been around my own dogs since she came home.  My vet did say she can mix with any vaccinated dogs, in my own home/garden

The specialist vet who treated Henry said that puppies can pick up viruses from vaccinated dogs.  He also said that socialisation is very important, and that we shouldn't have done anything differently.  He also pointed out that some vaccines are less effective than others, and some dogs respond better than others as well.  On the whole, I suspect we were just very, very unlucky.    If I ever have another pup, I'm not sure how I would feel about them mixing with ANY other dog before all their vacs.  But obviously after what we've been through, I would be an extremely paranoid puppy Mummy. 

But as someone else said, if you have a multi dog household, then your pup is automatically going to be mixing with other dogs anyway.
