Millie is the same! We've just got back from a week away, Mills stayed with my parents, (Mum is new to looking after dogs, so probably didn't brush her as thoroughly as she needs, but I'm glad she didn't have to go to kennels) and she's come home to us with a hooooge matt on her tum (which I finally managed to sort today, had to cut some out though, but been working on it since Sunday! and her armpits are bad too. Mind you, she spent the whole week wet through and up to her armpits in streams etc having a whale of a time! Trade off for having long hair I suppose!  :lol2: I'd love to clip her cos she's a mud monster, but OH won't have any of it, yet it's me that has to do the grooming!  ::)

Which slicker brush are you using Emma ? I've tried numerous different ones over the years and some of them are useless on Cocker feathering. The large Mikki Nifty is my favourite ( see HERE). I brush with one hand on the opposite side to make sure it's going right through the coat. I try and brush every day but do miss the occassional day, if I go two days without doing it then Jimmy & Stevie's feathering gets really matted up and it ends up taking ages to sort out - particularly at this time of year when there is so much debris around to collect in their coats.

I am using a Mikki one, not sure which one but it is one where you push a button on the back to retract the pins and get out the hair. I am going to have to be strict with myself and do it everyday and make an effort to really get in the awkward bits despite the grumbles.

Thanks everyone for the advice  :D

I clip my own and am in no way a groomer so could I ask please how would I go about clipping their arm pits. This is their worst area for matting and this advice is a really good idea.
i personally just lay them onto their backs and clip two of mine, i get my OH to hold/stroke kiz tum as she hates being brushed or clipped  :P  the clippers are the safest way to cut their armpits as its fast and you wont risk catching their skin  ;)
Julie owned by Ella, and Bailey the mud monster and little Milo.   R.I.P Kizzy 19.04.97 - 16.06.11, the start of my love for the wiggly ones and Bruno my lovely brave boy

Well my two are both back and I went for a full clip for both of them  ph34r  ph34r  ph34r
They don't look too much like cockers at the moment but I think in this weather it is the easiest thing to do and I also think it was the kindest for Lucy this time ph34r They still have 3/4 ears though  ;)
