First visit to the groomer
« on: November 10, 2009, 05:10:46 PM »
Well I've given up on Mali. After an operation in September I was unable to lift her onto the table to groom her for over six weeks. I thought I could get away with doing bits here and there but she has exploded into a bundle of wool that I can't deal with so I'm taking her to the grooming salon on thursday for her first ever visit.

My worry is that at the age of two and a bit, Mali won't tollerate a stranger handling her and turning the clippers on her (something that she's never experienced). I explained that to the lady at the salon and she reassured me that after owning cockers for 18 years and owning her salon for almost 20, she would be fine. I can't help feeling anxious though and wondered if any groomers on here could reassure me that Mali won't try to take the groomer's arm off  ph34r

Elsie is going for her first visit too and I'm sure she will love it.

I'll try to get some before and after pics before we go.

Hope she gets on okay today. The groomer will know just what to do to with a new nervous dog so dont worry.

Thanks Jo. We just got back in and I think it will take a while for Mali to forgive me  ph34r

The lady said that she was quite well behaved and she congratulated me on how good her coat is, so I've not done too bad a job over these past two years  :D

Both ladies fell in love with Elsie and loved her name. I think both dogs are quite exhausted now.

As for the cut, well Elsie is fine, she only had a little tickle up to show her what to expect (and she was very well behaved) but poor Mali has had her tail taken off! I feel terrible, it's my fault, I should have told the groomer what I wanted, I explained everything esle but forgot about her tail. I know it will grow back but it looks so odd. Her bottom has had a very close shve too  ph34r (that's going to be itchy!)

All in all, a good learning curve and great to have Mali looking tidy again but now that I'm fully fit I will be able to keep on top of it as I had been doing prior to my 'op.
