Smells less after castration???

Sorry if this should be in health mods.. I wasn't sure.

Dave had his bits off about 5-6 months ago now and we've noticed recently that he doesn't smell much anymore.. He's always been a very smelly dog his anal glands/lipfolds etc were checked regularly because I was convinced there was a problem.. but I've noticed a real change in him recently. He's a lot more alert, his behaviour with other dogs has not been as easy going recently he's being a bit of a bully and a lot more gobby which is not a good development ::) but he is SO much more pleasant to cuddle and seems a lot less 'gungy'!!!

Has anyone else experienced anything similar after castration?

can't say as he's hung on to his bits so far but he's generally not of the gungy variety  :lol:  I'm pleased that Dave is now an odour free snuggle  :luv: :luv: :luv:

Bring him down to us, Jarv has a way with gobby youngsters - usually just takes a few looks and a quick telling off and that's that  ;)

It's selective bullying unfortunately... those who can't get it rather than those who can handle themselves. Sometimes he's not as dumb as it would appear ::)

Rufus is less doggy smelling than he was before castration. Not sure if this is due to the change in coat, the fact that pinky winky is never out now or what. He only became gobby about a year ago, after a lab tried to perform an unnatural act on him, which I suppose was because of the castration. The usual odour  nowadays is more about where he has been and what he has been doing than his testosterone or lack of it.

Reuben was castrated in March and around 5/6 months afterwards became very reactive to most things.  ::) He also seemed depressed and was very lethargic. I was on the point of taking him to the vets as I was convinced there was something wrong with him.  :embarassed: I think it must have just been down to his hormones settling down though, as after a while he returned to normal.   :D

I'm glad Dave isn't quite as pongy these days  :005: After having a few weeks where Eric was absolutely rank I can totally sympathise with you  ;) I hope it is the start of a long stink free time together  :D

Roly does this, and tends to be a bit too full on with quite submissive dogs.  Its only a recent development, and I've started to put him back on the lead until he settles down.  Usually after 5 or so minutes he seems fine and goes back to being a reasonably polite dog.  Most recently was with a lovely Springer pup who was very sweet, but Roly was intent on pinning her down and growling.  I don't think he had any intention of hurting her - she still kept going back to him to play, so I don't think she was frightened (just a bit of I'm the boss and don't you forget it type of thing on Roly's part).  However once I'd put him back on the lead for a few minutes and he had to sit and watch all the other dogs playing he soon got the idea.  Soon as I let him off again he was fine and actually avoided the pup.  Don't know why its only certain dogs, but don't think its anything to do with castration - Roly still has all the crown jewells ;)

We found Jaspa was much more submissive after the snip (Feburary), he used to stay on his own and would be anti-social but now he is extra friendly like our other cockers which is really good because he kept on having "arguements" with freddy but now that he is done he doesn't need to be so dominant. He always used to smell of anal glands and had a funny smell about him but that has mainly gone now. His fur has gone really think so we have just sheered him like a sheep  :lol2:
