Hairy Cocker Feet that is!

I'm trying not to clip Maddi during the winter, just brushing etc, but her feet are getting massive! With them getting wet and muddy on walks I think I should trim them.  What would you recommend doing?  Would using scissors to trim between the pads be enough? Or should I take some of the top too?

You only need to cut level across the pads, the hair inbetween is best left to protect the thin skin there. I'd trim the rest of the paws too, THIS sticky should help. ( Good luck in getting them as neat as Michele though, I've never managed it.  >:(  :lol2: )

Don't forget also that many cockers get solid lumps between their pads if they have very hairy feet and do a lot of walking or running on earth or sand. When I was grooming, I used to get many cockers with these large knotty clumps because owners used to check between the toes, but not underneath the foot, between the pads.

Di the groomer combs the fur on the feet upwards and trims on top. When Rufus comes home he has normal dog feet, all smooth and neat. Not long before the hobbit feet return. The breed description I read somewhere said the feet are "cat like". We always laugh at this as cats are dainty with neat pawsall the time, not just every 12 weeks after going to Di's.

Cockers dont have feet. They have mop's  :005:

Im not so sure what to do with Missy. I want her feet and legs shorter because she gets so wet but dont want to much off her body i dont want her to get cold. Do you think this would look silly ?

I can identify with the Hobbit/ mop feet. We took the plunge and Penny (6 1/2) months had her first tidyup yesterday. I can't do a link, but if you search "penny's first trim" you'll see before and after photos. I was pleased because the groomer tidied them but they weren't taken back to the bone which I was dreading. Good luck!!
