Lump on Jasmines nose - Hystiocytoma
« on: January 09, 2010, 09:45:33 PM »
Jasmine has developed a large round lump on her nose, it started off as a little bump then within a week it was quite big. It looks like a big wart. The vet says she thinks its a hystiocytoma and that they are very common in young dogs ( Jasmine is 2 in March)
However I do not feel reassured since I took her to the vets and I am worried sick as I have never come across this before. I just wondered if any COLers had seen this? the vet said it should go away on its own but could take up to 6 months and that she would be reluctant to remove it unless it "changed".
Jazzy is my little angel, its not bothering her in the slightest and she is fine in herself - its just me!!!!

My old boy, Harvey had 2 hystiocytomas, both of which he had removed surgically BUT the reason for having them taken away is that they were on his legs where he could mouth/nibble them and the vet was concerned that he would develop the habit of licking them and possibly set up some infection or a 'lick granuloma site' (I think that's what he called it).  At the time my vet said that had they been in a more inaccessible place he would have let them run their natural course.  As long as Jasmine is ok and you can clearly keep an eye on the lump I guess the best thing is to let nature take its course - I can recall being more apprehensive about the 2 general anaesthetics than anything else! (and you can always go back to the vet and/or ask for a second opinion if things change).
Can totally understand your concerns - as my Mum used to say 'you love them so much you don't want the wind to blow on them'!!!
Hugs and positive thoughts.

Harry had one on his nose for some time and only had it removed when he started to knock it and made it bleed.   He was fine once it had been removed.

Thank you all so much for your replies - I do feel a bit better now knowing what happened to your dogs and that they were ok. I just get a bit panicky where lumps are concerned on my little angels.

My Doug had one on his neck, the vet removed it surgically as it was rubbing on his collor and sent it off to be tested (just in case and to re-assure us). He also said these are common in young dogs, Doug was just over a year old.

Dyllan too had one he was about 18 months at the time. I had it removed and checked it was on his leg. All fine after, :D

Rio had one when she was about 8months old, thread: http://www.cockersonline.co.uk/discuss/index.php?topic=40076.0 as you can see I panicked like mad, but just as the Vet and COLers said, it'd stick around for a while and drop off. Hope Jasmine's goes soon  :luv: x

Dylan has one on the end of his nose just like a small wart. He also has a larger one  on his back they have been tested and came back clear. Vet wants to leave well alone unless there is any change.
