Bin raiding.
« on: January 11, 2010, 02:41:09 PM »
We went out for a couple of hours on Saturday, leaving our three dogs with the run of the kitchen and hall (as usual).  It has never happened before....... but, the bin was raided.

Since then Ollie (10 months has had a bit of diahorrea and sickness).  Other than that, he is lively, and is s till eating.  Should I worry???  If he has eaten any plastic from a container or anything like that, would I know by now?  I have read so much about dogs being in trouble with blockages...... If he had any plastic or material in his stomach, would I know by now?

It would show by now I would have imagine but just kep making sure he is eating and drinking okay as well as going to the loo okay.

I always shut my kitchen door when out otherwise Lance would eat anything edible or non edible inside!

Thanks Joanne.....I hoped that someone might tell me this.

Still has a little bit of diahorrea........but no more sickness.  Think maybe he has just eaten something he shouldn't, as opposed to any of the containers........hope so anyway.

Just been out to buy one of the bigger bins...................doggy proof hopefully. :'(

All our bins are raised off the ground now, after Rufus perfected the art of bin raiding. Twice he knocked over the bin and took absolutely everything edible, even stuff which he would refuse if you offered it to him. On both these occasion the entire chicken carcass (cooked) was consumed, even though it had been wrapped up, awaiting transfer to the dustbin the next morning. It didn't seem to do him any harm, although he did pass some blue plastic of unidentified origin. I shouldn't worry, as things would have gone wrong by now. Coming down to the entire non putrescibe contents of the bin spread over the utility room and kitchen floor first thing is a tad annoying. Beware, I went to look for a better bin and there was a woman by them. We got chatting. She told me not to bother with the top touch bin, as her cocker had learnt how to get it it by knocking it over and touching the top!

Oh thanks so much.  We bought a 30 litre bin this time.............

Think we are just going to have to pop it into the utility room each time we go out, cause it seems that nothing is safe really.

I have a bin raider here too  :shades: we have to shut ours in the utility. My OH forgot the other night and Molly feasted on leftovers from our dinner party (chinese takeaway for 6  ph34r  ).
I think it is more of a worry if they DON'T poo etc as that can mean something is stuck  ;)
Make sure he is hydrated and just keep an eye.

ps ours is a barbantia and Molly has worked out that if she jumps up and hits the lid it pops open  >:D

We had to buy a tall bin and put two bricks in the bottom of it to stop Bella's antics. Having the tall bin on its own didn't work as she soon worked out that if she stood on her tippy toes, wrapped her arms round it and rocked back and forth she could get it to fall over. TBH I'm surprised she's not worked out some kind of pulley system to get into it  ph34r :lol2:

She can open curver boxes with the big metal clips on and has also unscrewed the mini dustbin containing the cat food (kept in the larder but our cat used to open the larder door and then Bella would do the honours). She did this by wrapping her arms round the bin and swivelling the lid around with her nose. There is no stopping her...

Hope Ollie is okay  :luv:

When I say all our bins are raised, that includes the bathroom bin. Rufus's taste is truly disgusting!

Hmmm let's just say I have to put certain deposits straight into the main bin  ph34r

Ah... hope she's ok.  Just when you think you have doggie proofed your home, they prove you wrong.

Ollie had a rotten start to his life, coming to us from the breeder with a nasty virus infection.  We were only saying the other day 'Isn't it great to pick up fully formed poos.'  Should never have opened our mouths..............here we go again. :005:
