A good instructor will always find something nice to say about your dog... even if it's 'nice lead!'

I hope you have a better experience if you decide to go to another class. Even if you know what you're doing in terms of training, I think it's good to get them out and about. I've failed with Tally so far as we can't find one that is near enough on a night we can do regularly- but starting in Feb hopefully.

Sounds to me that the trainer you have has no inkling of what cockers pups are like and also that you need to find a class that you don't have to rush in collect Lucky and rush out to class as that is far too much excitement for her

good luck with finding another more suitable class time wise and trainer wise  :D

We took him on the next stage of training, and Jo was just as happy to see him, because whilst he was still a giddy aunt, he did respond well to commands being taught too.

Yes. Toq is very good at behaving instructions. It's just he behaves like a dogbat out of h**l when he's not being instructed. The puppy class lady kept telling us off because she expected Toq to sit quietly for ages while she was telling us stuff, and Toq's not so good at that (and neither am I). He wanted to inspect everything in the room.

And she told me off for hugging Toq because 'he's a dog - he doesn't like being hugged'. Shortly afterwards, I watched a Horizon programme that said dogs enjoyed being stroked as much as people liked stroking them  >:D
OMG :o :o
Mummy loves her angels - but they're not angels all the time - They love to chew and charge about - but mummy doesn't mind

Ha ha! Maybe we should have a cockers only puppy class?

I had exactly the same experience. Elvis was an absolute angel at the first session that we went to, but the second was a different story. He danced, whined and threw himself against the fence for the whole hour, while all the other pups were perfectly behaved. The trainer was horrid, made me feel really bad and I didn't go back - until last week, which is now about 6 months later, and Elvis has grown out of the mental stage (a bit) so the class went ok. I socialised him in other ways, worked with him at home and now his attention span is slightly longer than 2 seconds, I think we'll benefit a bit more from the classes! Good luck!

Taz at 2 1/2 still goes in on his hindlegs - he is so excited :005:  I would do the same as you and leave the class.
