Really pleased Floyd is home with you  :luv:  Perhaps you could sleep close by to him tonight, i expect he will feel happier with you around.  :luv:

Keeping fingers & toes crossed that Floyd goes onto make a full recovery.  :luv:

I would also recommend to contact the Kong Manufacturer's.  It could also save another puppy going through this.  ;)

Just caught up with the update, so sorry to hear about Floyd, never imagined when I originally replied to your post it could have been caused by a piece of Kong. Like others I thought they we indestructible. Really hopes he makes a speedy recovery. As Nicola said I would contact the manufacturers.Thinking of you and Floyd.

Oh, so pleased to hear that your boy is ok.

What a horrible start to puppyhood, but at least he has a caring person who is his 'significant other'.

Hope everything continues well.

Sleep well tonight...............both of you. :luv:

Wow, that really was an unusual one.

Problem is that the Kong people have covered themselves every which way by saying something like "check the king every time you use it" (can't remember the exact wording). So I doubt you will be ale to get them to do anything about this unless you could prove it was faulty.

Buddy still has one of his puppy kongs. He just doesn't chew it much - just likes to empty it.

I really hope that Floyd makes a great recovery and that the bowel wasn't damaged. I am so pleased that you took him to the vet when you did!

Same here, hope all goes well  :luv:

Annette has a point, but surely you 'inspect' the kong each time you fillit, as you have to handle it ant insert the filling, so any damage would show? Sounds like it's made of a material that is too flimsy for 'Cockerdile' teeth  :-\

Hope he's making a good recovery.  :luv:

I agree with Nicola that it's worth contacting Kong to mention this to them - not trying to hold them accountable (as Annette says, they will be well covered in the way products are described), but just so they can look at the product and see if they can improve it in any way (or make it very clear that it's only designed for up to, say, 4 months, before any adult teeth have come through).  As a company that seems to pride itself on its reputation for durable products, I suspect they would at least appreciate being informed....

Only just caught this....what a shock, and what a worry it all must have been for you. Poor Floyd, hope he's recovering well now. I agree with Karma and Nicola, and I would also be tempted to send the remains of the Kong to the manufacturers, though I guess that might be a bit of a hassle, but at least they could actually see what happened to it. (or even e-mail a photo to them?)

Hi folks,

what an improvement today!

I thought the suggestion about me sleeping downstairs with him last night was the best, and so down we dragged the mattress from the spare room for us and pup to sleep on lol it was a bit like a nightmare camping trip.

He wimpered alot, i was cold, uncomfy and afraid to get up to go to the loo, and the other half snored all night  ::)  lol ...all in all... only 1 of us got much sleep.

But today he went out first thing and done a teeny tiny poo and an extremely long pee... which ive never been happier about (apart from that first time he toileted outside lol) the vet had said alot would rest on if he could manage a poo.  This was followed by another small poo before going into the vets.

So the vet was really please with how bright he looked today. He got a quick shot of a painkiller, a course of antibiotic tablets for 10 days, instruction on how to feed for the next 10 days, and an appointment to get stitches out in 10 days.  He's basically to eat mashed up chicken and rice in tiny amounts over 6 times a day, just so as to put as little pressure on the bowel as poss while it heals.

Hes still very thin with every bone in his ribs adnd spine sticking out, but the good news is now he is crying for food

I went out today and bought him a thick coat to protect both his stitches and keep him snug in the cold, and on advice from the vet, im going to have to invest in a good muzzle/halti to keep as much as poss out of his jaws.

I thought about contacting the Kong makers but i still have the packet from the new adult one we bought to replace the damaged puppy one. It states on it that dogs should be supervised during use of the kong. Im assuming this is their "cover-all"  as suggested by others though, i may just let them know as feedback, i do still have the remains of it if they would like a look to see that the material for the puppy kong isnt substantial enough for puppys razor sharp teeth. If they take it on board fantastic, because id hate for any other poor soul to have to see that look of fear in their pups eyes.

What a tail! ..... but thank you all for the kind thoughts and well wishes
