My vet says that he allows 15 months between boosters before any need to start all over again.

You can go 3 months late with a booster before having to restart and every rep (not just Nobivac) said the same thing. Think whoever you spoke to was being a tad over cautious  :005:

you wouldn't 'have' to re-start the booster process - although this is what the drug companies would love you to do.  I don't understand why vets can't get it into their brains that you can titre test for antibody levels (apart from lepto and the claims are with lepto that it actually offers little immunity over 6 months and the recommendation for full cover is to have it done every 6 months  ::) ).  There are other labs now that will test the blood, not just Glasgow and it is actually a simple procedure.

The drug companies make it very difficult not to booster (and often over vaccinate) as they make any other information hard to find and individual boosters are rare  :-\

Jarv was titre tested last Friday, his results will be back this week.

Completely agree with you. A few years back, I did look into titre testing my lot but the thing that stopped me going down that road was the fact that (at that time anyways), you could only buy the single vaccines in packs of 20 and neither of the other 2 practices in the city used single vaccines either or I could have just bought some from them.

I decided to switch mine to Nobivac and follow the 3 year program and this thread has made me realise I've missed their boosters  ph34r  Whoops!

Just to clarify, when do they have their yearly boosters?? Is it a year after their last jab , therefore in Belle case she would be due between 14 and 15 mths or is it when they are 12 mths old, I assumed it was when they turned 12 mths but now am a little confused ph34r :005:

It's 12 months after the last jab !

But I always understood it could be up to 15 months so I'm surprised Jeanette is being advised that they need to start the course again   I would query that  with the vet  ;)

Well just been and the vet said yes she can have just the booster because its only been 6 weeks.   Great I thought, she gave the jab and then I asked her why she was sticking two stickers on Indie's vac card and hadn't she just boostered her for Lepto which is what I thought when I asked her if she was just giving her a booster, the answer was no shes had everything again because its her first booster and she needs it all.    I told her if she looked at the card she would see that Indie's first booster was last year and that this wasn't her first booster   ::)   >:(

I then said so you've injected all that in her and she didn't need it to which she replied the vaccine they use has to be given every year anyway.   I asked her if she thought that it was too much vaccination and she replied better to be vaccinated than not  :-\

I need to change vets, every time I come away disappointed.

What an ******** vet  >:(   It does sound like its time to find a new vet.  :-\  I feel really annoyed for you  >:D  It could almost appear that 'your money is better in her pocket than yours' and in reality she doesn't seem to care about the long term health of Indie.  :shades:

Yes I am seriously annoyed - £46 not needed to be spent  >:D

ETA it wasn't the cost that annoyed me - it reads like that above - its the fact they give everything to boost their profits.

I totally agree, better to be covered by vaccination yes but not overvaccinated! I can't believe the vet went ahead and gave Indie a full course of boosters when that's not what you asked for, I'm really angry for you as well >:D

This happened to us with Bailey I forgot her booster in June as we were moving it was November when I checked her docks and contacted my vet. They told me we had to start again with the 2 jabs 3 weeks apart. I did question it but gave in  :-\ We paid over £50  >:D

Makes me cross as we have 6 dogs all under the same vet and they wouldn't even give me a reduction in cost  they said they sent out a reminder but they didn't, still my fault I suppose for not checking.

my vet has a lovely sports car  >:D

Thing is I went back to the old vets and this happened, the new vets which I was going to register her with had the nurse who said she would need the 2 sets again as I'd risked her health to parvo, so I give up - think they're all the same to be honest.

Will google and see if there any other vets about and keep my old one as an emergency visit one as its only across the road.

they make it very hard to actually do anything except the 'norm'.... I just had to stand my ground (going red in the face) and explain to them what a Titre test was at my old vets - the new one is fine - they are a little 'pushy' about vacs but when I asked for a Titre test they just booked me in (although Jarv didn't enjoy the blood taking one bit)  ph34r

Remains to be seen what happens when I get his levels back   :shades:

Ours have a full booster, then a mini booster (if I remember rightly, full at 1yr, then mini until they're 4yrs).

Tom gave Katie a single dose booster when we got her aged 18mths - she'd had the puppy course when she was ickle, but nothing else until we took her.

He's fine if they're a few months late too, as it lasts longer than 12mths anyway (so I was told).

Jeanette, not sure where you live but if you're near Poole or Bournemouth, I cannot recommend my vet, Tom, highly enough.

Not sure if I am right in this, but - assuming they are 8 weeks (that or thereabout) I take mine for the first of their first set of jabs about a week after I bring them home.

Then I take them for a booster a year after the anniversary of their 2nd jab (give or take a week or 2 depending on finances). So If their last full course jab was done in Feb 09, I would take them for the booster in Feb 2010
