Buffy is absolutely ravenous!!!  :005:
She is currently allowed a tablespoon of food every 2 - 3 hours and she almost licks the stainless steel off the spoon (OK I admit, I am feeding her  by spoon at the moment  ;))
She would eat herself given the chance!!! I am totally and utterly paranoid and if I look away from her and look back at her and see her licking her lips, I instantly think she has eaten something she shouldn't!
She is being really good though - I have just taken her buster collar off her for a while.  We have a vet appointment at 6.30 so I thought it would be nice for her to have no collar on for a little while.  She is just lying looking at me with those big, sad eyes.
Thanks again everyone for your good wishes - you kind of take your dogs for granted until something like this happens, perhaps more so because we have 4 others but believe me, she knows how much we love and missed her when she was gone.  Even oldest son (who professes not to like the dogs) has made a big fuss of her!

Will let you know what the vet says later.

Although I am still chuffed to bits, I was a bit shocked when I went to the vet.
Apparently, she is not out of the woods yet....... he said we have to stick religiously to the spoon of special diet food every few hours for quite a while yet! Although on the outside she seems fine, he reminded me that she has had major surgery and that because he had to cut into her guts (sorry to be so specific) and they have therefore been stitched, there are tiny holes where the internal stitches are which means if we give her anything more than the prescribed diet in tiny amounts, she could easily get septecemia (sp???)  He has seen it happen on day 3 - 4 post operatively.  So we have to continue watching her like hawks, feeding tiny amounts no matter how much she  begs for more food, little and often and call him at the slightest, tiniest change!  If she is sick, if she loses her appetite or if she seems "off" in any tiny way, we have to call him straight away!
Good job I slept like a log last night and thank goodness I am now on a week's holiday from school.  At least I can doze in the afternoon if I don't sleep too well at night......
Keep everything crossed - I have told the kids not to give Buffy anything to eat at all, not a crust of toast or a bit of  biscuit - all she can have is the prescribed food I will continue to hand feed her.  She also had a shot of antibiotics and has tablets to take for the next week.
Phew, what a week!

Don't despair Penny, you may have a bit to go yet but Buffy will get there with such a devoted mum as you are  ;)

ditto what Emma said. I know it must be really hard for you atm, but I'm sure Buffy is through the worst, and it won't be long before your wee girl is back to her normal self. Still sending lots of positive healing thoughts in your direction  :luv:
