So sorry to hear about poor little Buffy.  Hope to hear good news shortly. I know it isn't easy, but be brave.

Thank you all so very much for your good wishes.  Before I go on, I will just say here Buffy is still with us!

I had a terrible night (expected) and a really busy morning at work (luckily!)  Went straight into the staff room to ring the vet when I got to work, and Buffy had had a fairly good night, but still no better and still not weed or anything.  So of course, I cried!
By 11.00am it all slowed down at work and I leapt every time the phone rang.  I was actually on another call when the vet rang, so my colleague came and quietly told me so I could end the call.  I couldn't believe it (working with non- doggie people) but the whole office went silent while I took the call.  He told me she had come throught the operation ok and it was not Pyometra!!! I was just so pleased, I was crying anyway..... he went on to say they had removed what they thought was a sock.  She has to stay in for a few days as cannot eat for a while, but at least she had come through the operation.
I rang the lovely nurse back during lunch time, and she said it didn't appear to be a sock after all and they thought it was some kind of cleaning cloth.
I am just back from visiting her, and she actually stood up and wagged her tail.  I had taken her favourite toy (although she already has one of her toys in the crate) and she took it from me, and wagged her tail again.  She then laid back down.  I wasn't allowed to stay long because they didn't want her getting excited, nor too upset when I left so I really only stayed a few minutes.
They are hopeful if she progresses well, she might be home on Thursday or maybe Friday.  Perfect timing, as I work in a school so am on half term all next week so will be at home with her.
When I got home, I decided to try and find out what she had eaten, so I put it under the cold tap (it stank!!!) and gradually sort of teased it out.  TBH at first I felt awful cos I thought it was one of my trainer socks.  As it unfurled, I gradually recognised what it was.
Trev (as many of you know) has had a bad foot for almost 2 years which he dresses every day.  What she had done was to steal the dressing out of the bin and eaten it!!! Imagine a very large, old fashioned type elastoplast - the material type, about 2" wide and 12" long.  That is what she had eaten - no wonder it wouldn't go through her and it must have hurt so much.  The vet said it has left infection in her gut so she is on antibiotics too, but at least none of her gut had died so they didn't have to remove any of it!!!

I am just over the moon that she survived the operation (I was convinced she wouldn't cos she was just so weak and also because she is a delicate little girl at the best of times!)
The next few days may be hard as we need to hope she can eat, and pass it through ok before she can come home, but fingers crossed she will keep fighting.
I can't visit her tomorrow as I have to go somewhere straight after work and I really can't get out of it.  By the time I get home, the vet will be closed, but I can ring as often as I like and Trev may be able to visit her on his way to work so at least she will know we haven't just left her and forgotten her.

Thanks again everyone - I know you all understand how awful it has been and you will keep sending positive vibes to my darling girl.  She should have been called Angel, not Buffy cos she is my little angel.

For the record, Trev has promised to ensure that he puts his dressings straight into the dustbin from now on so there is no chance she can ever get hold of anything like that again, and as for our socks - just in case they will all be consigned straight to the laundry bin in future!!!!

Me too - great news that she had swallowed something rather than pyometra  :D  Hopefully now the obstruction has been removed, she will start to improve.  She really is in the best place at the moment and I am sure she will come on in leaps and bounds now.  Once they get the infection under control and she can start eating, I am sure she will be back to her old self in no time.  ;)

What a monkey though stealing that  >:(  I bet you will be paranoid about what she can get hold of now.  ::)  Sending healing thoughts for Buffy and positive thoughts for you all too  :-*

Oh I'm so glad she's through the operation and that it wasn't a pyometra, I've been checking in and thinking about her all day :D

Fingers and paws still crossed here that she starts eating and everything is working normally again so she can come home soon, keep fighting Buffy :luv: :luv:

Hope you get a slightly more restful night tonight :D
I am sure Buffy is in good hands, and will make a quick recovery from her operation.
My little cocker Lillie had a very similar 'incident' when she was 14 months old, but she had eaten a sweetcorn cob that she found in a field on a walk.
She was up to her usual mischief after a couple of weeks, once the stiches were removed ;)

All the best to you all!
