not so lucky, lucky
« on: February 08, 2010, 07:19:45 PM »
We took lucky to the farmers market yesterday and planned on taking her for a long walk after - however, as she was walking around the market, she appeared to be limping. Her limp seemed to get worse (front paw) but she seemed otherwise unperturbed. i checked her paw when in the car and couldn't see anything amiss. today she was running wild - as is her want and her limp had gone. my daughter contacted me at work this afternoon to say the limp was back and she was unable to walk. i came home from work and took her to the vets. she was like a crazed fool at the vets and head butted me whilst the vet was trying to examine her :o. Eventually the vet discovered glass embedded in her paw pad but she could not remove it due to Lucky's over exuberance. so.....she has to have anaesthetic tomorrow and the glass removed  :o. has anyone experience of troubled paws? will she need to wear lamp shade round her neck and how do we keep her off her paws?
thank you - as an aside, Lucky is developing into a really sweet natured, gentle girl - such a darling apart from when she's at the vets and of course puppy training  ;) we are so lucky and of course, i am the Luckyone!

Poor lucky............it is a damned nuisance when glass is left on the ground, cause you can bet your life our dogs will find it.

I hope all goes well tomorrow.

Sending cyber hugs.  :luv:

well our visit to the vet today was not as expected. the vet called to say that lucky had grit embedded in both paws??? the grit was removed, under anaesthetic and she is now bounding around with 2 pink bandages. i asked for her eyes to be checked too and she has floating film over both eyes, apparently this should not be a problem, neither is the short toe problem. How do i go about 'reporting' these congenital problems, who do i notify. thank you. see photo of bandages

:luv: Oh bless her, she looks sooooo cute with her pink bandages  :luv: so girlie  :005:
I am pleased everything went well.
When my GSP had to have a bandage over his paw (blue)  :005: we had to put a plastic bag over it every time he went out.  Even then he got it quite dirty.
Hope some one advises you on your other queries.
Lucky is so pretty - how old is she?

I would contact her breeder and let her know about the congenital problems, just so they know for future reference. What do you mean by a short toe?? I hope her poor little tootsies heal up quickly  :-* :-* :luv:

I love her pink bandages :shades: I'm glad she's running around again :luv: I would also speak to her breeder about any congenital issues she may have, they may be able to give you more info or in any case they should take it into account for future reference as Emma has said.

:luv: :luv: Doesn't she look pretty in her pink bandages  :-*

I hope she soon heals up,  if you want to keep the bandages clean, and as long as the weather is dry, buy a pack of 3 or 5 pairs of baby socks and tape them over, you can then change and wash them as they get grubby  ;)
