Mashed banana??
« on: February 13, 2010, 12:47:35 PM »
I have been giving Freddie frozen kongs with mashed banana and live yogurt (live because he has been very windy and producing less than solid poops) as his treat when I go out. He only has one a day and in a puppy kong so not very much (he does lick out the bowl I mix it in as well  ;)). He is currently producing piles of poop the consistency of mousse which are impossible to pick up. He is fed on Wainwrights puppy turkey and brown rice. He has had a tendency to be loose since we got him at 8.5 weeks - he will be 17 weeks next tuesday. I have had him on chicken and rice a couple of times and he firms up nicely but once back on the kibble it deteriorates. Most days he starts off solid and gets sloppier as the day goes on but yesterday and today he has started off sloppy. Could it be the banana?

I am thinking I need to change his food and like the sound of Barking Heads??

I would cut out the banana and yog for a few days to see if it improves.  It may even be the yogurt as some dogs cannot tolerate dairy very well.  ;)

I had to stop giving my boy bananas and carrots as they gave him very soft squirty type poops.  :D

Agree with others - I would cut out the banana and yoghurt for a few days and see what happens (you can always fill his kong with some of his kibble - if you moisten it with warm water you can get a mush that would be similar to the banana in texture anyway!!!)

That way you know whether it's the banana (or yoghurt) or the kibble itself which is causing the problems...  :D

When my old dog was loose the vet over here in France said give him yoghurt with probiotic in just the natural one and it seemed to work, maybe worth a try.

Peanut butter is a great filling for a kong if it is the banana causing the Mr Whippies  :005:
