hyperplastic chronic active eosinophilic gingivitis

my cocker spaniel age 8 has just been diagnosed with hyperplastic chronic active eosinophilic gingivitis it is like an ulcer at the back of his pallate inside his bottom gum it make his mouth chatter it is not very nice looking when he does it he has been put on steriods,one a day from the vet but as soon as we stop them the chattering comes right back any thoughts is there a cure for this or is this the only answer

Sorry to hear about your dog, I don't know anything about this condition - but I'm sure someone will be along who does.

Sorry to be of no help for your little fellow, never heard of this condition before. But it does sound very unpleasant for him  . Is it some kind of an auto-immune disease? (As you've been prescribed steroids?)

Some dogs are given steroids one tablet every other morning, that way his body also keeps making his own steroids and you might need less steroids and have less side effects. (As the steroids work for about 36 hours, he has 12 hours without the artificial steroids in his body, so his body keeps up his own steroid production.) Mind you, I'm not a medical expert and it doesn't always work (sadly enough not with our dog).

Hope there is someone on COL with more experience with this condition and hope he improves, the poor thing.

Thanks for you reply, hoping other people will see this, and maybe be able to shed some light on this problem.
Don't stay far from Glencoe, like walking the wee man from the kings house to the devils staircase - he loves this walk.

I've never heard of this condition so can't offer any advice - it must be quite painful for him when it flares up and I hope someone can come up with some suggestions for you

THe name of the condition is a bit too much of a mouthful too!
It must very sore so I hope it clears up quickly.
