Sorry it is not better news Nic but as you say it could have been worse if they had found something else  :-\  As you say, at least you know what you are dealing with and can get Tilly started on a programme to hopefully manage her condition as much as possible.  Let's hope she responds well to the meds and is soon back to enjoying life like she did before all this  ;)  I know that with you as her mum, Tilly has the best possible chance of living a full and happy life for as long as is possible.  Who knows what is round the corner but treatments are improving all the time so I am sure you will have many happy days with your special girl to look forward to :bigarmhug:  Do they know how long it should take for her to respond to the treatment?

It's a bit of a guesstimate really, as Sheryl has said there's a lot of trial and error with these drugs regarding the dosage. She'll be starting off on a very high dose and the aim is to gradually decrease it to find her 'maintenance level' although with a progressive condition that'll have to be continually monitored. The vet did say that hopefully the vomiting and diarrohea should stop within a few weeks on such high doses and maybe then she can start to put a bit of weight back on. She has to stay on the prescription diet as well, that's a major part of the treatment, she's not supposed to have anything else at all - no raw, no treats, no chews, nothing.

Sorry the news isn't the best it could've been, but as has been said, now you can put a plan together and get your girl back towards her magnificent best.... I've not been on the forum long, but you get an immediate sense of how much love, care and attention the dogs get from the various mums & dads from the posts and from that I would say I don't think Tilly could be in a better place to start on a path to being a happy girl again.

Oh I'll definitely check that out, it would be great if they have treats cos she does miss her daily gravy bones. She's on Hill's d/d salmon variety as she needed to have a novel protein. I'm not going to stop giving Rodaidh and Caiomhe treats as that's not fair to them but I can't give them something and give Tills nothing, I've asked them to order me a bag of the dry d/d in for Friday (she's currently on the tins) so if nothing else I can give her pieces of the kibble as treats.

I can't find anything on a quick search regarding the treats. I found this site which refers to making treats out of Z/D and D/D. http://www.petsourceusa.com/Blog/can-you-make-dog-treats-using-hills-zd-prescription-diet-canned-dog-food.html - I'd double check with the vet, but someone on there refers to treat making recipes out of the prescription diet on the Hills website? I'm sure the dried kibble will go down a treat for treats (scuse the pun!). Also, I have found this website invaluable with Penny's kidney problems, not sure if it covers Tilly's problems, but could be worth a look http://www.dogaware.com/ If I think of anything else, I'll look it up and post it. :)
