The joys of walking the dog!
« on: March 05, 2010, 09:05:50 PM »
As some of you may know Maggie has been on restricted exercise for the last 8 weeks following her elbow op... so most we are having is increasing length walks 3 times a day  :016: (currently up to 20 mins).  She's not the best lead walker in the world so its been a little trying at times, but we've found a compromise that suits us for now and we'll work on the lead walking once she's got the all clear.  Anyway.... just a couple of funny things that have come about because of this regime!
a) I am now officially that mad woman down the road with cats and a dog!  When I take Maggie for her last walk of the day we have a passenger!  My big ginger tom, Tonic comes with us  :luv: He runs along about 10ft behind us along the walls etc... and sometimes runs ahead and jumps out on her  :005: They get on so well and everynow and then he'll catch us up and they have a little smooch and then carry on  :luv: I get very odd looks from the neighbours!  :embarassed:  Anyone else's cat come walkies???
b) 20 mins gets us to the bottom of the road and back... tonight there was a dog having its evening constitutional so rather than disturb it I decided to cross over and turn around early, and just walk past the house so she got the full 20mins.  We got opposite the house and Maggie stopped walking, I carried on and she looked at me like I was mad! Sat down and refused to move  :005: She clearly has a defined route in her head and will not be deviated from it :005: (or maybe she just knew dinner was up!)

Definately don't get a cat following us - no cat would be so silly to get in sight of Honey!  ph34r

When Honey was younger I was trying to stop the major pulling we always got entering our drive to get home, and spent a long time walking up and down the road just by our drive entrance... (No idea what the neighbours thought I was up to!!!!)  Honey reacted as if I was jut insane....  :005:

:lol2: :lol2:  Yes, our cat Keith (who sadly died last weekend aged 19) always came walks with us for part of the way (till he get fed up and then waited till we came back to ambush us) until last summer.  I am afraid to say in years past we also had a shaggy white nanny goat who accompanied us.  Me, 2 dogs, Keith and a goat, and yes I looked bleddy stupid.

I've had 2 of my cats come walkies over time! I used to desperately try and get them to go home, for fear of them getting run over (the road outside my house is a race track apparently) sadly the worst did happen, but it still makes me smile the thouhgt of them trotting along after us! :luv:

Would love to see a picture of Tonic.  (Do I take it you once had a cat called Gin? :lol2:)
