Seatbelt for a puppy?

Hiya all :)

Just wondering if anyone could recommend a seatbelt holder thingy (!) that I can use with my puppy that will grow with him into adulthood? Like a puppy restraint for the car?

We can take him out from next Tues (YAY) and a lot of times I'll be taking him out on my own, so would like to introduce something asap.

Not sure that there is a puppy harness that would suit a small pup and grow with him.

When Coco was small, I used a small crate in the car for her - you can get soft ones - so they can snuggle down and have a snooze when they need to  ;)

I went to a local pet shop at the weekend and got Freddie a normal harness (there were lots and I'm sure you would find one to fit a small puppy - might have to buy another as pup grows but they are not mega expensive). Also bought a Ferplast strap thing that clips onto the harness and the other end plugs into the seat belt hole. Have used this combination a few times now and it seems to work fine. :blink:

I'm not sure there is one that will grow with him.  We've got the Clix Car Safe for Ted (http://www.companyofanimals.co.uk/products/safety/travel/clix-carsafe), although he will need a bigger size as he grows.  It is made out of a continuous loop of seat belt webbing, so should be strong in the event of an accident.  Personally I wouldn't use a normal walking harness in the car, as they won't have been designed to withstand that type of impact.  :-\  The Clix can be used as a walking harness when you get to your destination.

I don't actually use the harness that much, as we have found Ted settles better in a crate, probably because he can't see us.  He did have a tendency to try and lunge across the back seat and nibble my son when in the harness.  I probably won't get another one until he's all grown up and sensible.  :005:

I bought a standard walking harness for Taz (and now Kira).  purchased a metre of linked chain and a seat belt clip - then you can change the length of the chain as she grows.  I did try a fabric option instead of the chain, but as Taz chew thew two of them and (and my OH rear seatbelt when i used that) i decided that chain was the best option.  It works really well.
