Guys I really need all your advice - Annie is so greedy
« on: March 23, 2010, 10:43:14 PM »
Annie is 2 1/2 and so greedy it's actually getting out of control  :'( We have fed her RC pup and now adult and she was fine although always greedy but we put that down to her being the runt of the litter. For the last few months her need for food is driving us mad....she is always at the fridge door or begging or frantic about an hour before tea, then goes mad when food is served. The worst bit is mornings, she starts about 4am trying to wake us up, on off the bed etc (sorry we can't change her bed as Maisie Cavvy has always sleptwith us so naturally Annie does aswell) she jumps all over us for hours until about 6 we give in and she goes into a frenzy about having her breakfast. the thing is we are exhausted  :'( we love her dearly she is a joy, we worm her she is of good weight and lively, plently of exercise BUT we cannot solve this food craving,....please guys any advice ???

Just a thought but has she had her thyroid checked -  only one of my cats was like this  - he had an insatiable appetite - he was diagnosed with an over active thyroid  - I think it might be worth a trip to the vet or it she might just be that she is a greedy little  >:D  Hopefully someone else will have some ideas !

I agree.  The vets may be the way forward.  Strangely I am having the same sort of trouble with Kali.  Her screaming and crying when food is around is pitiful and it never stops.  It is way beyond the usual cocker food frenzy too!  Diabetes can also cause this ravenous symptom as can Cushings.  I am not saying for one minute it is any of these things but at least you can rule them out and then as my vet told me...............'what you are left with is a greedy cocker'!!

Huge hugs to you as I know what you are going through right now!  :-*

I agree with all of above but also what are you feeding her on as well - mine were on Burns originally and were continuously hungry.

Wherry has always been quite greedy but just before and after her season she became manic. She tried to grab a ciggarette out of my uncle's hand as she saw it going to his mouth! Could it be something as simple as that?

If after your trip to the vets, you are just left with a very hungry cocker, then I have heard vegetables help fill them up without adding to their girth.

I am sure I have seen it discussed on here someware, so you could do a search. Saffi's mum was also on a part vegetable diet at the suggestion of a vet, because of a similar problem.  Saffi is so far (6months old) not showing any such tendency and indeed is a bit of a fussy eater so I have no first hand experience.

Also if her health is ok we only feed ours mid-morning as we found Jenna was getting us up earlier and earlier  >:( so now they know there's no point getting us up early because they still have to wait!

Also I try and get raw knuckle bones from our butcher which I freeze and get one out every now and then. They last ages and mine will sit happily munching on one for ages and get quite a lot of satisfaction from it without actually gaining a lot of calories. Does their teeth wonders too.
