Can dogs get colds? Or could it be kennel cough?
« on: March 25, 2010, 05:35:20 PM »
Hey all,

Elvs has been sneezing for days and yesterday started coughing. Today, Wilbs has been coughing with his whole body and drinking loads. He isn't doing it often but when he does it's quite un-nerving. He seems so uncomfortable with the heaving! So can doggies get colds / coughs? Or is it more likely to be kennel cough which will get worse? They went to the groomers last week and see a dog walker weekly so I guess they could have caught it there? I'm dreading another trip to the vets! Why is it that my trips always fall just short of my insurance excess!?

Never encountered sneezing before kennel cough  :dunno: KC is a deep "seal barking" dry cough which usually runs it's own course in about 10 days. Antibiotics are useless for it. Honey can help soothe it. It is generally not a problem for most dogs, barring being very young, old or having a compromised immune system. Distressing to listen to and I'm sure the dogs aren't thrilled, but most healthy dogs can cope

You may want to see your vet anyway
